Hauck adds to coaching staff; new candidate for DC position emerges —

Definitely the good old boys club. I like the hires but now he needs to fill out the staff with some youth. Having a couple young energetic guys is a good thing for energy level and relating to young adults. Also can help with recruiting.

Personally I’d like to see Ferriter and Semore brought back as position coaches. Both are great recruiters and players love them. They would mix in well with this wealth of experience Hauck is bringing in.

Hard to believe Semore would be hired as position coach but... Never thought Bobby would be back as HC.

Semore proved pretty conclusively the validity of the “Peter Principle”, & while he may have some recruiting skills/connections & players find him likable, he can’t coach.

Some seem to have forgotten that he neglected to give the players all the tools needed when he decided to wait until week eight two years back to implement zone coverage schemes or how he got consistently schooled by opposing coaches who knew all they had to do was to mix in a few new plays on Griz week, because they wouldn’t be prepared for it. They prepared for faceless “schemes.”

Hauck wouldn’t even consider it.

I agree he has a ways to go as DC. He failed there. He was a lot like Stitt to where he was too married to a scheme but as position coach I think he would be an asset. It’s what he should have been from the start.

A guy like Semore, younger and less experienced, could greatly benefit from the experience he would be surrounded by on this staff. He was greatly missing that from the head coach and assistants last year.

I know it isn't likely, but I think it could be a good move ling term to have Semore as a position coach to continue learning and building on his experience. He is a smart guy if you ever get the chance to talk to him. Players like him and he has some good connections, I think Bobby could really teach him a lot.

Niekamp becomes the new defensive coordinator at Illinois State of the Missouri Valley Conference.

Is Kent Baer the same former D coordinator for Notre Dame? I want to say that was around the early to middle 2000's??

Yep same one. Had FBS stops in lots of places it seems.

Utah St
Idaho
Cal
Arizona St
Stanford
Norte Dame
Washington
San Jose St
Colorado
UNLV

Not saying this is good or bad, but Kent is 66. Bobby does like to keep some very experienced coaches on staff. Hopefully, there will be some youngsters on the defensive side that can learn from him.

Wow, I would never have expected this for Travis based on Special Teams coaching. Maybe he was just in the wrong place?

Good for him! It’s tough losing your job. Glad he found even a better landing spot.

He was also the linebacker coach @ UM. School ties helpful? Imagine that...

What I find strange is that UM does not "Officially" have a DC, yet they are hiring Defensive position coaches.

Would think the DC would have a lot of input in those coaching decisions...

Is sacks for sure not the DC? He has a big time resume that makes me think he wouldn't come to FCS unless it was a coordinator position.

Or to come back to Missoula, a place he loves and played at, Coach a few years and retire.

Maybe Hauck already knows who the DC will be and is talking to him already. Maybe he is still working in Phily. ;)

True enough. But back to the initial question, has it been confirmed he is NOT going to be the DC?

Not officially by the U of M but that's no surprise. Skyline sports who has been on top of all the hires is saying Kent Baer is the leading candidate for the DC position. If I were a betting man I'd say Sacks ends up with the D line or LBs

Riley really has added a lot to the athletics program. While we always had radio, the constant online presence across all programs is good for the athletic department. He's very professional and does a good job IMO.

What Riley lacks in in-game flare he greatly makes up for in this digital world.

I liked Mick and also like Riley. If, not being a big time homer, is lacking in game flare, then you are right. I really doubt that Riley likes in game flare. The best in the conference right now is Strohman.
