Nice W and nice game tonight. Good games from Kemp and Martin in their limited minutes tonight. A lot of great ball movement by many players tonight. The offense looked as in sync as it has been all season. Wayne has to be happy with some consistent offense tonight. It has been awhile since we did that for a whole game.
Martin had a pretty good game (6 pts, 7 rebounds and 3 blocks), but I felt that Kemp had a better game and was the key (at post) to the turnaround in the middle of the first half. When Martin/Hutch were having trouble defending and boxing out the big man, Seiferth, Kemp came in an shut him down. Kemp was very physical on defense, and picked up an immediate foul. When Kemp was in the game, Seiferth got fewer rebounds, and I don't think got any buckets on Kemp. He may have gotten a bucket when someone else was guarding him.
Besides the physical and good defense, Kemp had 6 pts, 5 rebounds, 1 assist and 1 steal. Kemp didn't make a defensive mistake until right at the end of his stint in the middle of the second half, when he went too wide on the double team out front and let the guard split the defense and go down the lane. Kemp got a very nice ovation when he went to the bench after those minutes. He was on the court in the last few minutes of the game, until the last 20 seconds.
None of this is to take anything away from Martin, because Martin had multiple nice plays including a early score. In various games, he has had a few nice plays, but in this game, he had way more of these nice plays.
With the 4 guard offense and Weisner playing very well off the bench, the 3 true posts, or some combination of them, are now starting to play stronger with some consistency. Minutes were 17, 15, 5 last night, for Martin, Kemp, Hutch.
