GRIZ/EWU game 2 thread

Griz coach Travis DeCuire echoed Gregory, but said there was even more fuel sprayed on the fire.

"It’s a big rivalry to them and it’s a big game to them and they seem to take a lot of pride in beating the state of Montana," DeCuire said. "We didn’t want them getting the (season) sweep and it added to it when they told us to vacate the floor so that they could storm the court, so they basically told us to our face that they were going to get the 'W’ today and I thought that (ticked) our guys off."

It ticked off one Griz in particular: Martin Breunig. The 6-foot-8 junior scored 24 points on 9-for-11 shooting -- 6 of 6 at the line -- and dished out a career-high six assists, many for open 3-pointers.

“It was a great basketball game, and the two teams really put it all out there," Eastern coach Jim Hayford said. "Congratulations to Montana -- they got one more point than we did.”

What they don't have is a bad play-by-play man. Which is incredibly surprising.
I always prefer Mick, but the delay was just too much so I was stuck with the bigskytv and the EWU/SWX guy. I thought he really did a good job. Very professional.

Today Montana recognized that they need to stop Venky to win. By collapsing on him every time he got the ball they shut down the Eagles offense. Venky had 5 of our 8 turnovers. Expect to see more of this going forward. Yes we need to shoot better than 60% FT if we expect to win, but the Griz had a better game plan an/or executed theirs better.

Catastrophic day to be an EWU fan. Both basketball teams essentially lose the regular season title on the same day (although the men may have a slim mathematical chance). To add insult to injury, the lose to their perceived, hated rivals. I feel so sorry for them that I'm on my 4th beer and can't wipe that smile off my face!

Well said sir, well said. :thumb:

What a great college basketball game on Saturday afternoon. Congratulations to the griz.

Tough to be on the wrong side of the outcome, but that was a great game. I have a feeling Eastern and Montana will meet in the Semis of the conference tourney...

Good luck this week

Thanks 5. I agree on all counts. A great game, and I think it involved far and away the two best teams in the conference. One of them will Dance.
