GRIZ/EWU coaching status

Just for the sake of a more interesting off season, I really am hoping Baldwin lands a BCS job. It will be interesting to see who the candidates are for each job. Will there be any common candidates, that will interview at each school? If the GRIZ hire anyone other than Hauck, would EWU consider Hauck? Would Stitt consider EWU as well? Who will get the better coach? Will both programs remain at or near the top of FCS football?

This reminds me when Larry Krystkowiak left Montana basketball. At the same time, MSU parted ways with Mick Durham. 2 fierce rivals looking to fill their vacant head coaching positions. MSU hired Huse. The GRIZ hired Tinkle. I remember hearing and seeing posted how the Cats landed the better coach. Several years later, the GRIZ won that hiring battle hands down, with how things played out. :thumb:

My hope is the GRIZ win this new hire battle hands down as well. Of course, if Baldwin remains at EWU, this will be just another meaningless GRIZ/EWU egriz thread.

I was one that thought MSU hired the better guy. Glad to say I have never been more wrong...

Let's hope history repeats itself!!!

My guess is that long-time EWU OC Coach Aaron Best would be a strong candidate at EWU.

Any guesses when Haslem might make a decision?

On the GRIZ/EWU pregame show, Haslam said he wants this decision made by Christmas. He wants to enjoy the holidays. I feel that is a realistic goal as well. I honestly feel it is down to Hauck and Stitt. One is a known commodity for Montana. The other is what many are hoping for as for being an offensive minded coach, and new blood.

Regardless of who the new GRIZ coach is, I honestly want a GRIZ team good in all aspects: Offense, Defense, and Special teams. As fun as MSU, EWU, and Sac State were to watch offensively this season, as a football fan, the lack of defense was disappointing and maddening for me.

Either way, I can't wait for Montana to make their choice. :thumb:

You don't think Beau would take him when he leaves?

I completely agree. I think this is a big reason why I hope Ty gets to stay on as DC regardless. Watching shootouts can be fun, but defense wins championships. I hope next year's Griz team doesn't forget that. I hate it at the end of the game when you're trying not to score too fast because you have no trust in your defense. This year I didn't ever have that feeling.

Honestly, I don't, and especially not if he were in the running for the HC gig.

Best is listed as the Assistant Head Coach/OC, but really he's the O-Line Coach. Baldwin, for all intents and purposes, is the OC - he calls all the plays.

Best played at Eastern back in the 90's and has basically been on the staff since he graduated. I think they would most likely go internal to the program (Kramer, Wulff, Baldwin), so he's the most logical choice.

If he goes Pac12 all those guys will be gone. They will be making a lot more cabbage plain and simple.

I think he would take most of his staff with him, yes...with the possible exception being Coach Best.
