GRIZ/CSU game thread

Great game! The Griz were light years ahead of CSU in terms of playing like a team. I seriously doubt the big CSU center is a future NBA player. He simply could not handle Strait. Also, solid and productive contributions from Elgin-Taylor, Sharp and Qvale coming off of the bench . Vanderjagt and Selvig did not play. As for the students, they earned the lower deck back. There were tons of them in the upper end seats too. They will get rowdier with practice. There is no question that having a packed student section on the floor contributed greatly to the atmosphere. Now the students have to keep showing up for the rest of the season and fill their sections to complete the deal! Nice job all around!

Students are you getting the point of how damn important you are to this basketball program? Many lifelong GRIZ fans on EGRIZ are supporting you. Honestly though, I hope the likes of athome, swilly, etc continue to get students to every game. Attendance and atmosphere for EVERY home game will be mandatory to get those seats back fulltime. Great job tonight students, now can you keep it going all season? :thumb:

I had a laker hat on and I was in the front row so it was probably me. lol

Damnit where are the likes of Re/max? Or anyone in attendance that will write a detailed game review, summary, and critique. GRIZWHIZ are you up to a more detailed report? I am relying on you guys this year and probably the next 3 to 5 years before moving back to Missoula for good.

OK- The game started with the Jordan Hasquet/Matt Martin show. Jordan scoring and rebounding and Matt hitting 3s. The Griz were living on 3s early while CSU was scoring inside. Later in the half, the Griz began to score inside and outside. Staudacher did very little in the first half but really found his shooting touch in the second half. Cam looked like a completely different player than the one we saw in the exhibition games. He hit some pull up 3s and was an assist machine. Strait began to score and rebound later in the first half and on into the second half. Sharp also started out a little slow but really played well, especially in terms of defense and rebounding in the second half. Qvale didn't have tons of stats but played good D (he plays tough inside and is not intimidated), got some boards and had a nice tip in. Elgin-Taylor hit some big buckets in the second half and played good D. He did have a turnover or 2. The Griz also used Jordan at the 3 in addition to going with a 3 guard line-up a couple of times (Martin, Rundles and Elgin-Taylor) What really impressed me was the teamwork of the Griz. CSU, in contrast, looked like a bunch of guys (some very good athletes) who had not played together much. I hope this helps. We will know much more after Sunday. :twocents:

44-26 Griz at halftime. Staudacher has 11. Hasquet with 14 and 4 boards.

Imagine how big the lead would be if the Griz were making more than 63% of their free throws!

44-26? You must have ben playing the John Madden college basketball version. I was there. It was 26 - 19 and it looked like hitting 50 for the game would be a challenge. 44-26 Hmm?

Here's my best one:

The one in the middle had my attention all game. :thumb:

But seriously, I look forward to some pics with a better camera than mine, especially any action shots.

Drove over for the game from Helena and was definitely satisfied that I took the time to do it. I was more impressed with the team than I was the students. Students lacked something, but I remember High School student crowds more amped up for crappy high school basketball teams. This team is special! They are so unselfish and have a no I in team attitude. Rundles has a ton of fire in him and I hope it is not too much at some point this year. But regardless he is a leader. If we keep hitting those 3s, the BSC is in trouble. I told my father last night that I think this is the best team we have had since Delvon, Kevin, Darren, Roger, and Co. And we have had some dang good teams that have gone to the Dance. This will also raise the level of the BSC. The great thing is that we have a great team this year, I am mostly talking about chemistry here because it is early in the season to say how far this team can go, but next year the sky is really the limit and I am not referring to the Big Sky.

Jordan Hasquet, is this kid a fun guy to watch play basketball or what. Strait started out a bit slow, but he is still a force to be reckoned with at only 6'8". Cameron is going to have a great career as a griz and CET will provide some quality backup minutes at the point and will also have a great two year griz career. The one thing I have noticed in the past is the Griz typically are a team that gets pushed around quite a bit, but there was none of that last night. They were the aggressors. I know I would not have wanted to be in the paint last night.

Tinks was very fun to watch interact with the crowd. I am sure he wants this more than anyone and his emotions were worn on his sleeve last night. One thing is for sure, he is a player's coach. I saw him go over to Matt Martin after Matt forced a bad shot I believe and gave him a little pep talk reassuring him they were going to be ok. But it was a big brother "you have it in you and you can do better than that" type of talk, not a father like chat like LK would have done. As long as my pocketbook can handle the increasing gas prices this will not be my last game. STILL NEED MORE FROM THE STUDENTS!!! There was too much of "what is our role here" instead of this is our house and you will not be able to get out of here alive". And more capacity over all would be nice. Missoula can support it with the right work. What a great time to be a griz. Now if we could only get into the Mountain West Conference!
