Griz Clinch at least 4th seed, but still chance at 2nd seed

With NAU's win over PSU last night in OT, Griz clinched at least 4th seed and a home game in Missoula.

If Griz can win out, and the Bears lose a game and PSU finishes ahead of EWU, Griz get 2nd seed based on Griz sweeping PSU and Bears getting at most a split. Griz and Bears have split their games among the top 4 teams and both have swept NAU. So, a tie breaker really comes down to how they did against PSU, unless EWU can manage to finish ahead of PSU. Since PSU swept EWU, chances of EWU finishing ahead of PSU is small. PSU would have lose out, and EWU would have win out. Thus a tiebreaker for the Griz in a tie with UNC is very very favorable. What may not be favorable is UNC losing to PSU or Sac.

Since the Cats have lost to WSU twice this year, and UNC split, Cats can do 3rd seed at best.

As for 3rd or 4th seed, that won't be determined until after the Griz-Cat game. If Cats can beat UM in Missoula, Cats earn the 3rd seed and Griz get 4th seed.

Griz lose today against Sac St, Griz still have chance at 2nd seed but UNC would have to lose out the rest of the way making things much tougher. But, losing today, they still have good chance at 3rd seed by beating the Cats.

For success in Big Sky Tournament, Griz have to win out.

Griz still have a chance at second. But, Sac State beat UNC? HA, that would be surprising.

Since, I am assuming UNC to beat Sac State (after watching how pathetic they were today), Griz will be 3rd seed and Cats will be 4th seed. That means if the Griz play the Cats in the tournament it would be in the tournament championship game.
Also would mean Griz will play NAU or PSU in first round of tournament. It looks more to be PSU as NAU has just Sac St to play and PSU has to play WSU. PSU loses just one game and they finish 6th.

Looks like Griz will be playing PSU in the first round of the Big Sky Tournament. Looks like a safe bet to me.

Well, we gotta beat the kitties to be 3rd.

It would have helped if PSU had actually shown up for the first half of their game against UNC today.

Just go to bed, son.

Huge game against the Cats coming up. Either way the Griz get to host a first round game (unless they somehow end up in 2nd). However 3rd and 4th could make a huge difference. 3rd plays UNC who is without Beitzel in the 2nd round (if they get past the 6th place team). 4th would have to play Weber at Weber. At this point I'd much rather see the Griz play UNC on a neutral court than Weber in Weber in the 2nd round of the big sky tourney.

For the first round I'd actually rather see the Griz play NAU than PSU though.. PSU is kind of a scary team when they are on. NAU is a different story. The Griz dominated them two times now.

Why are you here? Some of you Weber fans really make me wonder if there's some serious inbreeding problem going on down in Utah...

I know, Griz are going to beat the dastardly Kitties next week. Therefore, My prediction is still going to be correct.

First, either PSU or NAU will be tough. It is difficult beating a team for the third time. Look at the Cats last year, case in point. If NAU is on from three they could be real dangerous. PSU has shown to be very weak without Bone as their leader. Playing a game in Missoula before the tourney is not necessarily a bad thing. In fact, I look at it as more of a positive playing a game than having the bye. They have played fairly well on Dahlberg's floor this year and adding one game in a two week span where they only have 2 games will be a way to get some of that fire back in their belly from lack of playing. Assuming we will beat MSU we will be playing UNC on the first night whether we are a 2 or 3 seed so no advantage there really, other than the fact it could give us a chance to get guys healthier if they are in fact hurting at this point in the season with nagging stuff. Getting WSU the second night would probably be better than in the championship because the crowd potentially could be stronger the next night.

First things first though. I would love to see 6000 plus in Dahlberg arena next Saturday night. I know I have been planning on this game for a long time. That place should be rocking!

Yes, I would think NAU would be the team Griz would want to play but looking at whats left and how they stand, I don't think that is going to happen. But Griz are going to beat the Cats for 3rd, and PSU won't overtake NAU. Prepare for PSU.

This is not smack so dont take it the wrong way when I say If, but If Montana gets past whoever they play in the first round which is most likely gonna be PSU and Montana gets to the semi's If any of you are planning to come down to Utah, I would recommend instead of staying in Ogden, I would stay in Layton, Layton has better hotels and a much better resturant selection and its not far from Weber, like 10 miles is all.

Congrats on making the Tourney, and I hope we see you in Ogden.

While he is a Wildcat brother, don't listen to WILDCATFAN, Ogden has two nice Hotels, Hampton Suites & Marriott and much better dining than Layton, unless you can't get enough Chili's, and any other chain crap. I do all I can to avoid Layton, and Davis County. It's awful traffic and all, there is absolutely no reason to venture into Layton, everything you need and more is in Ogden, plus minutes from Weber.
Recomended dining and beer in Ogden: Rooster's BrewPub*, Union Grill, Sonora Grill, Timbermine, Ruby 'River, the two Hotels you want to be at are on 24th street, and another couple dozen owner operator AWESOME restaurants are on 25th Street. Jasoh, Artisan Grille, Bistro 258, Shin Sei, Tona, La Ferovia, Beer:Brewskies, The City Club etc.,

couple things i've been thinking about regarding the big sky tourney. in the last 20 years the hosting team has won the championship barely over half of the time. 12 teams have went on to represent the big sky in the dance. here's something i noticed that doesn't bode well for weber...here's a look at the last 7 years, and whether or not the host team won the championship.

:? I'm thinking MSU is a fading firecracker at this point. I predict MSU doesn't even make it to Ogden. :thumb: :thumb:

I think you are wrong. Huse will have them there.

I think you are mistaken. :thumb: NAU will probably wipe them off the court, in Bozeman if that's how it goes down. I hope I'm wrong.

Last year the cats had only 6 conference wins, and then caught fire in the tournament, beating the Griz then Weber. This year they appear to be a better team. I don't think they are going to lose to NAU at home, and I honestly wouldn't be surprised if they beat Weber after that. Of course, I also wouldn't be surprised to see them get beat badly by Weber too. It depends on what cat team shows up :) I really don't see them losing at home to NAU in the first round though.

One word Mbunga!! That was last year. I am predicting they lose to Northern Arizona at home in the first round. Besides the two poundings we gave them they have been playing good ball, even without Platt.

i'm predicting that you'll keep running your mouth for the next week and a half...only to disappear come the outcome of our big sky tourney. but go ahead. i always appreciate those that talk a big game when their favorite team is playing well.

I think a first round matchup between MSU and NAU would actually be a pretty good game to watch, you could almost consider both MSU and NAU to be pretty even, with a slight advantage to MSU, but I think both teams are capable of winning this game, Montana State seems to be struggling right now, but they did that this time last year and got hot in the tourney and pulled 2 big time upsets, MSU and NAU are good teams and every team including Weber better keep their eyes on these 2 teams.

And as a sidenote, I also believe a Montana/UNC semi final game would be ultra sweet to watch, I got my tickets to the BSC tourney and I hope all the games are big time Big Sky games.

i agree. sadly the cats aren't playin too great right now. i think overall nau is a better team. however, the cats playin at home should make us favorites by a couple points. i also think a um/unc matchup would be great. i still think the griz are playin' better ball than anyone right now. i think the cats will learn a lot about the makeup of their squad when they play in missoula saturday, but coming away with a win will be very difficult.
