Griz/Cat Game

It looks like the cats are taking it to the lady Griz with not only their 3 point shots, but it appears that they are playing a tough man-man defense for almost the full court.
I have watched the ladies for years & it always seems that the ladies have always had trouble dealing with this kind of defense. I wonder when selvig will figure out a way to beat this type of defense.

Great game! The Bobcats did a lot better than I was expecting them to but the extra fouls/FT's did them in at the end. No arguments with the officiating from me. BTW, did anyone hear Krystowiak at halftime call it the Cat/Griz game? :o

Thats becuase Larry is no dumby, he knows what the real game name.

I now take a moment of silence. :-?

1. The ref's let the Cats get away with hand-checking on our guards all night. I thought the Cats played well, just no inside game. The Griz outrebounded them by about 20 - that was the game.

2. The ref's won't call the hand-checking unless the crowd gets on them early. If it goes on for the first ten minutes, it becomes acceptable.

3. New Cat coach seems like an ok guy.

2. For those of you who know hoops, can somebody explain why we could get the ball inside at will against Florida State (another short team) but we couldn't against the Kitties?

The Cat's play us 2x a year or more and watch film with other teams from our conference playing us as well. Nothing we do surprises them. They have had many opportunities to refine their game plan against us.

FSU had never seen much of us before. The FSU coach (and staff) sat right be hind me when we played Maine. It was really great listening to them talk about the game and the players!

Anyway, they were scouting us for the next days game. After about 15 minutes the FSU coach said, "What are we going to do with THAT girl?" (Meaning Holly) I guess they never did figure it out!

They watched the game for about 45 minutes then left and went to dinner.
That was pretty much the extent of what FSU saw of our team and game plan.

Florida State did not play the physical type of defense that Bobcats, Gonzaga, Utah, and Colorado State did. All three of those teams play physical and will risk fouling to prevent Hollie getting the ball. And if you check the stats, Gonzaga, Utah, Bobcats, and Colorado State were all called for more fouls than the Lady Griz. Only the Bobcats failed in winning, but came very close to doing so.

But, VictorG is correct in a way that future teams will find out that Lady Griz has problems against physical type of play. Expect more of it.

I think its more "fun" to call it the Griz/State Game, and see the hackles get up!

(No disrespect for either team intended)

It is hard to get the ball inside when you turn it over at the 1/2 court line 2 out of 5 times down.
