Griz cat game thread

A W is a W so the good news we will take it. The bad news is that
the same old same old. The first half we played 11 players. at times
its hard to know who is on the floor without a stopwatch. If I were
a player I would huck up a shot the first time I got the ball thinking
it might be my only chance. Also, I find it amazing that we didn't
go to a zone. The cats were beating us time after time off the
dribble because they were quicker. Duh-most coaches would go
to a zone. Lastly, some players seem to have a charmed life they can
go 2-3 games and not score a point yet start and play most of
the game; I know is not true but a black kid might get the idea
that the race card is a factor. To me the program is a shambles.
I am hopeful it can change but its getting hard to remain optimistic.

YOu are ignorant. Race my ass! If there is a more non racist person in Missoula than Wayne Tinkle, I would like to meet him. Go hate somewhere else asshole.

Let's see, we beat the cats (usually a good thing) and the program is in shambles??? I also see no merit in ballhog's race card comment. I'm pretty sure I saw Cam Rundles and Brian Ellis on the floor for most of this game. This team is not dominating right now. In fact, I don't think they will become dominating this season. However, the program is hardly in shambles and it's a real shame that a groundless suggestion of racism has to be rolled out to support that particular accusation. :twocents:

LOSER. IDIOT. IMBECILE. SCHMUCK.

i fail to understand why tinks is putting certain players into the game. theres nothing wrong with putting players in for experience, but when a game is tight such as tonights game, stick with the players that are giving a consistent effort. it was good to see hasquet and some of the other guys give out a good effort. glad to get the W. theres no need to play 11 players. the last few games before tonight's mayes has been a difference maker. what happened to playing him more?

No, you dont switch from man defense to a zone if the other team is beating your man somewhere. You make a switch in personnel. If a team is quick, they'd love to see a zone. You have to reverse the pass against the zone and the quicker your players are, the better this works.

I don't really agree with this but where the hell was drew down the stretch? I mean not totally down the stretch bc he's a horrendous foul shooter but when it got close I didn't see him in there.

In a nutshell, the cats and future opponents are very close to turning to a "Hack the Shaq" type strategy. As an observer, it would be very justified by opponents. Strait used to at least look comfortable on the FT line, but just missing. Now he is a mental wreck on the line. When it becomes mental, it is harder to recover what has been lost. I applaud Tinks for the toughness to sit him. I also am encouraged the staff had the foresight enough to see it coming before it did. Hindsight does not serve much good. Little things such as that, and Tinks countering Huse posting up his guards are signs of this staff beginning to learn on the fly.

Also keep in mind, this decision was made much easier with Hasquet having a good offensive game, and Chavez stepping up the Defense and rebounding. The combination of both making up for what Strait brings to the table, and eliminating Straits only weakness. Had neither been stepping up, Tinks would have never pulled Andrew. Other players gave him confidence in making the move he did, which turned out to be the right move.

Better to have people think that you are a fool than to open your
mouth and remove all doubt. A close victory over the cats at home
does not bode well for the Griz. First to make it crystal I did not say
any one was Racist; everyone knows that Tinks is a great guy.
That aside I believe it was Leo Durocher who said Nice guys finish
last. But if I was a black player sitting on the bench watching Dlouhy start game after game without scoring or Martin at the start
of the season doing the same I might wonder what was up.
Mayes for one has had several 3 min stints where he looked like
a million bucks yet he cannot seem to get a shot. He is a senior; last year I seem to recall that he came off the bench to score 10 pts to seal the win against the Cats. It is hard to be optimistic-
if you believe in Moral victories I would give this one to the Cats.

Deny it all you want you jerk. You know full well you were implying that Tinks is racist and you know it. You fooled no one. Why don't you go straight to hell, you will be much happier amongst your own kind. :finger:

We only see the games. You can't go off of that alone.

The coaches see every minute in practice and interact with these guys day in and out. The coaches know who to play a hell of a lot better than anybody on this board.

Since I know Tinks personally and would never call him a racist
I have pondered Grizbacker's comments. My only conclusion is
that I now know why Grizzlies almost became extinct. P.S. this is
no reflection on the class university and the people associated with
UM only the occcasional fan still living home with his parents.

You obviously don't know Tinks very well or there is not a chance in hell you would post flat out lies and innuendo. People like you are the worst kind, spewing your hatred then when called on it give us the excuses such as " I know Tinks", or try this one "I have black friends". YOu are a loser and really seek psychological help. :loser:

Der, but what's the point of a board if no one states their opinion? I say we lay down a rule that when someone says which player they think is good and deserves a shot, we don't automatically assume that they think they should be the head coach of the team. I mean i'd love a crack at it minus the X's and O's part but no one here honestly thinks they know more than the coaches.

As for Sharp's PT, I have no idea as what is up. Could be a couple reasons. (1) His health with diabetes may take its toll more on him than it did Adam Morrison. (2) Hasquet was not in foul trouble, and played well. I am taking Sharp's PT as that, and not reading greatly into it. Especially with having to deal with Diabetes. Maybe Morrison turns out to be more of an exception, and Sharp is more the norm when having to balance athletics along with it.

A few of us are criticizing Tinkle for sticking with Martin and/or Dloughy too often. Only Tinks knows the reasoning. Part of it could be that Tinks feels more loyality to these 2 being they have been part of the program longer. A coach has be very careful how to handle PT with any player that has been such a big part over previous years. That is team division and condesension waiting to happen. It really does take away from team chemistry. Maybe they feel this is the best way for team chemistry sake. Both Martin and Dloughy would be losing PT to players that have been here a shorter time.

Dloughy to Swift, Mayes, Hasquet, Chavez and Sharp.
Martin to Swift, Mayes, Staudacher

When it comes to handing out minutes, some of those decisions may effect chemistry. One cannot put a value on the importance of Chemistry. We do not know what is going on behind the scenes. It is not Tinkle knocking or not liking the other players, but how to do things without dividing a TEAM up. That is much easier said than done in the coaching world at all levels.

The speculation is cool.

I just think this thread was getting a little out of hand.

Heh, yeah. Moreso than ones after we lose. I'm really looking forward to the big weekend against WSU and ISU. Hopefully the students will get going and the marketing department will cook something up to let everyone know that these two are currently the best in the conference.
