Griz BB Gets No Respect

now, on the liability side:
1. few corporate sponsors, as gb 1 notes;
2. the need to add another three minor sports;
3. the added costs of scholarships and recruiting budgets;
4. small market;
5. less state funding than is probably available from other states.
6. the cats.

7. Losing seasons
8. Lower attendance due to losing seasons

This is economic forcasting, not an exact science. Excluding those factors is dishonest. I think winning is what most Griz fans want, and what you would have less of if you move up.

so our task here is to add to either the asset or liability side, and then attach credible numbers to all entries.

Huh?

finally, i'd like to shock gb1 by partially agreeing with him--the big sky has been good to montana's athletic program, and i am all for staying with it FOR THE TIME BEING.

reason is, i think conference alignments are still in a state of flux, and while the big eastern powers have already decided that 12 is the ideal conference size, neither the wac nor the mountain west is there yet. i look for the mwc to raid the wac for boise state, fresno state and nevada, leaving one more slot to fill, and in my dream scenario, montana would be that 12th team, re-aligning us with our rivals from the old skyline conference (utah, byu, new mexico, wyoming and colorado state) and the big sky (nevada and boise state.) our competition for that twelth slot would be utah state (the victim of an intra-state feud in utah), idaho (poor facilities), new mexico state (no way), davis (no glamour or tradition), hawaii (real competition.) that would leave the wac to raid the big sky, with sac state and portland state already itching to move up, and weber state, eastern washington, montana state likely candidates as well.

in the future, there will be no i-aa, and no big sky, unless the wac were smart enough to adopt its name.

OK, unless your the man with his finger on the pulse of the "eastern power conferences, the WAC, and MWC, this is just pure flights of fancy and speculation on your part, and has nothing to do with facts. And where the f did Davis come into the picture?

And I'm sure that in the future there will be no I-AA, but right now, I-AA schools outnumber D-I schools, so your gonna have to convince them of this first.

gb1: i'll pursue my homework on this issue if you in turn promise to use in your arguments only credible information. to say $21 million is the AVERAGE athletic budget in the WAC simply does not square with verifiable objective reality as supplied by several other posters obviously less hysterical about this issue than you are. remember: distortion is the basis of all propaganda.

Back to the matter of the Griz garnering no respect.

The Griz don't have to be in a different conference to move up the national ranks, they just have to play a strong OOC schedule and BEAT those teams. If Larry K and Co. think that the Griz have a squad capable of doing the above, then do it. Gonzaga is in a "weak" conference but the earned a national reputation by beating "better" teams from "better" conferences in OOC play year in and year out for about eight years. On top of that, it took tounament runs to gain recognition. Now, after beating teams up for the better part of a decade, announcers finally know how to pronounce the school's name.

Of course, if the Griz do follow this formula, there will always be those who profess that they are overrated due to their "weak conference" in other threads. Hmm....

City,

I apologize for using numbers provided by a former Athletic Director of the very conference you aspire to. :loser: I am hardly hysterical. It is you sir, that are obsessed with being "big time" and leaving the "small pond" for what you perceive as Big Time, ala your highfalooting CA existence.

You could author a book on distortion, you have been doing it for decades. :clap:
