If Sac State wins the regular season, would they actually host in that gym? They wouldn't move it to another, bigger, venue in Sacramento?

If I'm not mistaken, Holy Family Middle School is only 4 blocks from campus and has a capacity of 1,600 if all of the lunch tables are removed.

Big Sky officials say the 60-year-old Hornets Nest isn’t capable of hosting the eight-team tournament. Its seating capacity of 1,102 isn’t nearly large enough, and the facilities can’t accommodate ESPN’s cameras and other equipment, said Big Sky spokesman Jon Kasper.

The result is a community-wide scramble for an alternative location. The obvious answers, such as Sleep Train Arena, Memorial Auditorium and UC Davis’ arena, are already booked the weekend of March 12-14, when the tournament is scheduled.

Mike Sophia of the Sacramento Sports Commission, which is helping the university scout locations, said all sorts of sites are under consideration –even a conference center at McClellan Park in North Highlands.

“You can build a pretty nice college basketball arena in a ballroom,” Sophia said. “We’d love to have an option for them here.”

Drinking??? NAU plays in a 3500 person gym with vollyball lines all over it.

Weber maybe? And by mid major standards, Dahlberg is a great facility. Far, far better than average.

Kadeezy, what are their options for hosting facility

1. http://thewell.csus.edu" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; - New on campus facility. This state of the art facility was originally supposed to include an arena for basketball games. However, after the crash the basketball aspects of the development were scrapped. Now the scuttlebutt is that arrangements could be made to accommodate the big sky tournament. It is estimated that 5000 to 6000 seats could be brought in as well as the ESPN cameras.

2. Let's just say that option two is perhaps the most intriguing option of all. I don't know at what level the talks are going on, but I bet that ESPN would be extremely happy to pimp a championship game on an air force base...

3. Reno, NV or Stockton, Ca

Griz have two versus Eastern and Idaho. Also a tough road game at Northern Colorado. Probably have to go 4-0 at home plus 4-1 on the road to have a chance to host.

Still frustrated by the lack of ability to finish and the fact that Sac State won that game by making only 19 FG's, only having 10 assists and being out rebounded by 4. Sac State also shot 14 more FT's than their season average.

Not meant to be an excuse at all, because goodness knows the GRIZ had ample opportunities to win.

But it's interesting to note that during the first 10 minutes of the second half, during the only decent and consistent officiating of the game (e.g. when the game wasn't stopped every 11 seconds for a whistle) the GRIZ were soundly taking care of business.

Yeah... then the 9:18 mark hit right after the technical foul.

From 9:18 to 4:18 (5 minutes) the Griz were whistled for 6 fouls (sac for none) and Sac shot 11 free throws and of course with 0 fouls on Sac the Griz shot none.

The Griz kicked their own ass quite a bit in that time period too with turnovers (4 of them).

Even with the lopsided fouls and free throws the Griz should have been able to pull out a win. Costly mistakes in that stretch (turnovers), & big misses at the line came back to bite them in the ass. Free throws were rare for the Griz and we went 8-15 this game... ouch.

Sac were the aggressors over the last half of the second half, of course they were going to get the calls. With Breuning out and others in foul trouble, we didn't have the horses to compete in the key and simply didn't get the calls. It worked in their favor. Can't wait for them to come to Dahlberg!
