Griz at PSU Predictions

I do NOT think it will be as close as some folks suggest. Remember scores from 2019 BSC games: PSU (LOSS) TO IDAHO STATE: 51-24. MONTANA (WIN) AGAINST IDAHO STATE: 59-20. With this rationale, MONTANA should defeat Idaho State, Score: UM 110 ISU 44.

Some miscellaneous info about Portland State (PSU). Of their five (5) wins, two (2) have been against NCAA II and NAIA lower division teams. In those games they outscored their opponents 129-16. The 129 points is 40% of the entire points scored this year (319). Other than their 2 FBS losses against Arkansas (#113 of 130 teams) and Boise State (#20/130), PSU has played no team in the Big Sky Conference (BSC) ranked higher than 7th (of 13). Their three (3) remaining victories were against BSC teams ranked #10, #11, and #12 of 13 teams. This would suggest (to me) that PSU's record is not nearly as impressive as it would appear despite the gaudy numbers...just saying. Up to you, your decision, you decide how you think the numbers stack up:

This is going to be a tough game for Griz. They have been the best in the league vs the run. So Griz will have to open it up and Humphrey will have to make plays. Griz win an ugly game 21-17.

I looked at the defensive stats for PSU in their 5 Big Sky games, since none of their other 4 games are anything to judge as far as stats go.

They give up a total of 125.2 yds rushing/game, 290.6 yds passing/game (415.8 total)
That's against the nos. 6, 9, 10, 11, 12 teams in the Big Sky Conference. I mean c'mon...197 yds rushing by NoCo, 177 by ISU, 100 by NAU (a team not known for their rushing ability). And the only team they held to under 300 yds passing was Idaho, which was a pretty impressive defensive game for PSU. Griz have been getting better & better in the 1st quarter, and as long as they keep mistakes at a minimum they will blow out PSU.

Griz win 41-20
Look at their home games compared to road games. That 24-0 game at Idaho stands out. This will be a slugfest.

We are starting a QB with 1 career start and they have a weird defense than confused the heck out of Sneed last year. Like a lot of Bobby games, it will take a bit to wear them down, but we will.
27-20

I’m gonna have to agree with you. I think this has the looks of blow out all over it! I hate the trip to PSU, however! They always give us a tough time. If Dalton was starting and playing, I might feel that way! Nothing against Cam either. It’s purely based on Dalton’s experience and knowledge of the offense; his reads and experience against different defenses! PSU has a tendency to be a little chippy when we play them, and the Griz don’t get any favors from the refs on the road! I can see us winning by as many as 45 and as few as 20-even with Cam at QB! I think Cam has improved, and they’ll want him to manage the game and go simple like last week-but let him open it up s litttle, now that he’s more comfortable! I could also see Dalton starting this game, and Bobby keeping it secret until game time !

To go further, I can see us scoring early, and the Griz defense dominating this game the whole game and shutting down PSU the whole game! This could be a total route, and I sure hope it will! I’m basing this on what the defense did to Struck in the 2nd half of the ISU GAME! Struck hit these guys for 332 yards passing and 6 TDs, and the Griz shut him down after the first quarter really! This game has blow out written all over it! I think everyone is still afraid of the Stitt era, and some aren’t convinced yet that we’re one of the best teams in the country! We took a hit at Sac St, but I think we’re still better than teams ranked ahead of us! We just need to prove it! 63-10 is not out of the question!

I may cook these words and serve them hot for dinner, but I am nowhere nearly as nervous as I was for Sac State. I was worried sick - had bad vibes all week long and those feelings of dread conjealed like lumpy oatmeal when Sac went for that first 2 point conversion. Nothing felt right from the get go.

I agree this COULD be a trap game . . . for all those reasons mentioned: Portland is unpredictable, they are chippy, they really want this game, their flex defense, it's at their - sort of - house, we probably won't have Dalton at all . . .

I'm game day nervous and the team needs to play well, but . . . I do not have that sense of dread and forboding I had 2 weeks ago.

We got this.

The hit we took from Sac reminds me of 2008 when we went down to Ogden and got beat up badly in the rain by Weebs, a game we should have won. That Griz team reeled . . . then roared for the rest of the season. And remember who had to come up to Wa-Griz for a playoff game just a few weeks later? Revenge was SO sweet.

Their fans who made the trip were cocky as hell, too. Before the game started, anyway.

I was there, in Ogden, in the deluge. Not a happy memory.

trap game?! no way. Not for the Griz! Hauck won't let them get upset again by PSU.

With Sneed playing QB: Griz 38 PSU 20
With Cam playing QB: Griz 27 PSU 23
