Griz at Portland State: Game Thread

The good news is that next year, UM has two freshman that can really shoot, free throws, and 3pt shots and under the basket. With Pridgett, UM is going to be possibly better than this year's version. This game is over but there will be others.

THIS is the team that is so talented, and is going to clinch it tonight, then sweep the Tournament, and on the to Big Dance, or Little Dance? They may go dancing, but they'll have to buy a ticket.

So, just who is going to win the Conf. tournament? Your optimism is inspiring.

I'm gonna get roasted for this. But talented teams that are consistently coming out flat and playing below their potential have a number of issues, which also includes coaching.

I agree. Last 3 games this team has acted like they can just show up. Playing like this they won’t get to the tourney chipper. Got their ass kicked again by a team that is 10-9 in conference and 15-15 overall. Sad

Big Sky regular season on the line at Sac. St. Hopefully come out fired up and pissed off after tonight’s game.

Cleaned up 11 TO and giving up 7 steals in first half to 1 TO, as of late in 2d half. Give me
Psu on Thursday. We will run them out of the gym.

Don’t agree on anything you just said.

Unacceptable. Way too shitty of a first half

Yup. Shitty first half and early second half. But not unacceptable. Nice try at comeback. The team owes you and people like you nothing.

Simply cannot understand this team. They have some talent. But the "bottom line" is that they have played like s**t way too much down the stretch. You look back at the last 8-10 games and they've had a lot of games where they let crappy opponents hang around, had some close calls, and (of course) lost when it seemed like they should win.

In fact, I'm wondering if they can even win the regular season. After tonight, they'll be tied with NoColo on the record. They'll need to win at Sac State just to stay even, since I don't see the Bears having any trouble with NAU. But can the Griz even win at Sac State? They just barely beat a weak NAU team at home, and were never really in this game.

But assuming they can get their act together and win at Sac State ... What are the tie-breakers? The Griz split with NoColo, so the head-to-head is a wash (unless they go by score differential). Would the Griz be considered the top "champion" ... and eligible for an NIT invite? Because ... quite frankly ... I do not think this Griz team is playing well enough to win the conference tournament.

As of right now, the best coach in the conference is in Colorado, but UM is still the team to beat and DeCuire is the coach that can motivate. He just doesn't seem to be able to get this bunch ready for a tight game until the second half. If they beat Sac State on Sat, it will be, entirely up to Oguine, Rorie, and Pridgett and Morehead. Should be a good one. UM struggles at Sacto.

Don't know, LA. You should experience my pre-game and half-time locker room speeches. Would inspire the dead to come out of the ground. Or is it roll over, underground. Can't remember. Optimism is what was posted prior to the game. Pessimism was posted after the PSU game in Missoula. Reality is what we see tonight. They are consistently inconsistent.

Montana holds the tie breaker with their sweep of the 3rd and 4th place teams—MSU and Weber. They have to win at Sacramento!

Would like to disagree with the negative posts. Can't. :?

How long has it been since the Griz played a complete, dominant game ... worthy of their supposed high level of talent on the floor? Too long.

It's hard to judge just from broadcasts rather than live looks. But I still have the feeling that the problem with the Griz has been, and is, the lack of a true "take charge" leader. I just do not see any one guy filling that role. It's great that different guys have stepped up, at times, and helped the Griz win games. But that does not give you any consistency when things are not going well. And the coaches cannot "manufacture" a leader ... it has to arise naturally from the squad.
