as others know, i got an mip... here's a tip, don't get one. the people who work with the corrections center all hate their jobs and take it out on everyone who walks in the door.

So are you saying you are a victim now?
I was drinking a beer with my parents at a tailgate. I don't see myself being significantly more mature in 3 months. just bc these people have some dead-end job and hate their lives doesn't mean they need to be a dick towards others.

Maybe Marso is a Blaine Taylor wannabe. Seriously, does the coach-leader expect to have as much slack as the student-follower? That's nuts.

What does your parents being there have to do with it? Do you think that means you are immune to what every other college kid your age is held to? I see there wasn't one mip the last home game, so really, are they as mean as you claim? If that is the worst thing you ever endure over your lifetime consider yourself lucky and quit complaining. :twocents:

That is a chicken shit post. Blaine has been sober for over ten years and has put his professional and personal life in order. He has turned a cellar dwelling Old Dominion team into a pretty darn good program that graduates kids and has never had an NCAA infraction. Le tme know when Marso gets there.

If my parents are fine with it, how bad can it be? Honestly. It's not like I was drinking and driving, as countless students do here every night. It won't be the worst thing that happens to me but I'm glad it'll never get as bad working at the Missoula Correctional facilities. I'm not talking about the cops, judges or even the dean of students, who all are pretty understanding but have to do what they have to do. Then you go to the correctional facility to get community service and they're unpleasant as all hell. Like I said, it blows that they have awful jobs but they don't have to take it out on people. it blows i have to do this but i'm not takin it out on them. This whole thing is ridiculous. It's the type of thing that will never deter anyone from drinking but only waste a lot of people's time.

I don't think anyone should treat you with disrespect, but I am not too sympathetic that the police did what they were told to do. Maybe you just need to be a little more discreet when you drink in public. :thumb:

This is about as stupid a statement as the rationalizing of Marso's DUI/punishment that I am sure GF10 would be posting if he was still active. You knowingly broke the law, you got caught, grow up and get over it.

As for Marso, I don't see how there is anyway this guy keeps his job. The absolute last thing this athletic department needs right now is news like this about the people that are supposed to be enforcing the rules and setting reasonably good examples.

I was good friends with a former Griz Bball assistant and we were roommates during his last year coaching here. Whenever we went out, either I drove or if he drove, he'd get a taxi home. I can honestly say I never saw him drink and drive once. He stated several times that not only would it be a stupid thing to do, but would look horrible for the University and the program if he got a dui. In Marso's position, you have to be smarter than that.

UM assistant basketball coach charged with DUI
Story by Bill Oram | October 30, 2007
Montana Kaimin
Assistant men’s basketball coach pleaded not guilty to drunken driving Monday morning in Missoula municipal court.

Brian Marso, in the second year of his second stint with the Grizzlies, was cited with DUI early Saturday when police received a report that he was passed out behind the wheel of his Isuzu pickup truck in the drive-up lane at the Taco Bell on Brooks Street, according to an affidavit by the arresting officer.

It was the second time Marso had been charged with drunken driving. Court records showed that he was also charged with DUI on March 7, 2004.

Marso submitted an Alford plea in that case – meaning he didn’t admit guilt, but there was likely enough evidence to convict him. He completed the state’s mandatory treatment program, according to the records.

The Athletic Department was mostly mum on the latest issue Monday. Neither Marso nor head coach Wayne Tinkle returned calls, and Athletic Director Jim O’Day was out of town and did not reply to a message left on his cell phone.

However, in a press release issued late Monday afternoon, O’Day said, “At this time we are investigating what took place Saturday morning. This matter is in the courts and we will continue to closely monitor the situation as it moves forward.“Both Coach Tinkle and I would be severely disappointed and concerned in Coach Marso’s apparent lack of judgment if these charges are proven. Our coaches and student athletes are held to high standards and we take that very seriously. It is an internal personnel matter and will be dealt with accordingly.”

According to the officer’s affidavit, Marso smelled strongly of alcohol and his eyes were red and watery.

Marso refused a Breathalyzer test but failed other field sobriety tests, the documents said.

The 35-year-old Marso was booked at 4:18 a.m., according to police records. He was released at 5:54 a.m. after fellow assistant coach Andy Hill posted the $500 bond.

In 2003-2004 Marso was an assistant under then-coach Pat Kennedy. That year he took a job as head coach at Garden City Community College in Kansas. He returned to Montana as an assistant under Tinkle last season.

Former men’s basketball coach Blaine Taylor, who held the post from 1991 to 1998, was arrested for DUI in the mid-’90s. Taylor kept his job after going through counseling, Sports Information Director Dave Guffey said.

I see the hypocrites at BN/msu are back to throwing stones. Maybe they should spend more time writing letters to their former players in prison. :loser:

You guys are always pissed off when someone posts a newspaper article about another kitty in trouble, so now you are getting some back at ya. I guess as always, you can dish it, but you can't take it. The multitude of losses to the Griz over the years must have really taken a toll on you.

Most of what I read on Bobcatnation seems to be written with a sence of humor about it. No real slams there!

BTW: The legal drinking age needs to moved back to 19.

He will do exactly what Blaine did. He will make a public statement to the effect that "I have a problem, and I need to deal with it." Then he will immediately enter a treatment program, and hopefully get this straightened out. He will keep his job, but be put on a "zero tolerance" leash. Then after the season, they will re-evaluate the situation.

Just my guess.

You beat me to it.

Kids (18) can go to war, they should be able to legally drink, IMO.

But, BUT, make the DUI offenses more severe. Minimum 15-30 days on the FIRST offense, 6 months for 2nd, praying Bubba don't butt hump you in Deer Lodge for the 3rd.

Have a birthday coming up do you? :D

There's a family in Butte this week that are mourning the death of their teenage daughter who died as the result of a drunk driver. She and her friends were walking down the street on a pedestrian path and were mowed down by this young man. They were about a block from the deceased's house. Tragic with no excuse!

Bottom line - if you consume alcohol have a solid plan not to drive at all while under the influence. It is not worth it. It never ends well. I think penalties should be stiffened to confiscate and sell the vehicle/vehicles of the guilty.

My :twocents:

Pray for this family and the 2 other girls who are recovering and for the perp to learn this hard lesson.
