Griz Add Oregon St for 2026

A friend and I drove out from Billings for the '96 game. Oregon State's Coach Jerry Pettibone was trying to run some kind of option offense, maybe even the wishbone, and it was an unmitigated disaster !!!

The Beavers 🦫 from the mighty Pac-10, thought they were going to roll us, the GRIZ from the lowly Big Sky, and their collective eyes got as big as pie tins and their mouths involuntarily dropped open as The Beaver Believers 🦫 the name of their GSA, were stunned watching Brian Ah Yat fire the ball all over what was then, I believe, Parker Stadium now Reser Stadium to targets such as former Beaver Joe Douglass as our GRIZ pounded the Beav's 35-14.

Pettibone quit at the end of the year--his 6th--after going something like 2-9, last in The Pac-10, his DC Bronco Mendenhall would go on to become a legend @ BYU, and Oregon State's fortunes would soon improve when The Beav's hired a new HC named Mike Riley in 1997.

It would be poetic justice if 30 years after the GRIZ beatdown led by Brian Ah Yat of OSU if Da GRIZ, led by another Ah Yat, again beat The Beav's and collected a big, fat paycheck on our way out of Corvallis !!!

It was Dennis Erickson that led them to a PAC10 championship, I don't think Riley ever did.

I just hope nobody gets hurt, playing bigger, stronger, faster athletes. Remember what happened last time guys? How about the Reese Phillips incident.......do we really want a repeat of what happened then?

Not worth the money in my view.

Indian doesn't know he's confusing you with Billings.

"Riley was hired as the head coach at Oregon State in 1997 to replace Jerry Pettibone, who had resigned at the end of the 1996 season. Riley's initial contract was a five-year deal at $185,000 per year. In the Beavers first season under Riley, they posted a record of 3–8. This was a difficult season for Riley as he attempted to run his NFL-style offense with players recruited by Pettibone to run the wishbone triple-option. The 1998 season was a big step in the right direction, with the Beavers posting a 5–6 record, their best record since 1971. Two of the six losses were by a single point, to Washington and California in back-to-back games late in the season. This was followed by a last-minute loss to a highly ranked UCLA team. The 1998 season was capped off by a double-overtime 44–41 victory over the rival Oregon Ducks in the Civil War game.

Although his first stint with the Beavers only lasted two seasons, Riley is considered by many to have laid the foundation for the success of the Beavers in the years to come. The 1999 team, led by Dennis Erickson and built around players Riley recruited, posted a 7–5 record and earned a trip to the Oahu Bowl, which ended a streak of 28 straight losing seasons." Wiki.

This is what Billings said: "Pettibone quit at the end of the year--his 6th--after going something like 2-9, last in The Pac-10, his DC Bronco Mendenhall would go on to become a legend @ BYU, and Oregon State's fortunes would soon improve when The Beav's hired a new HC named Mike Riley in 1997."

I thought The Beav's should have coughed up at least $750,000, but their AD might have countered, " Hey, your GRIZ beat our Beavers the last two times you came to Corvallis !!! " ( Granted, those games were 1990, '96.)
