Griz 90, Matadors 80

Griz beat the Matadors today 90 - 80. Matadors reached their season average. Griz scored way over their average. If the Griz didn't turn the ball over 22 times (9 by Matt Martin), would have reached the century mark. The Matadors were not a very good team but still gave the Griz fits.

Criswell lead the Griz with 24 points, 12 from the free throw line.
Matt Martin made up for all the turnovers he committed with 18 points. 9 of his points from the free throw line.
Davis made 16 points, 10 from the free throw line.
Dlouhy made a career high of 14 points.

Griz shot 56.4% from the field.

Despite all the turnovers he committed, Matt Martin should be taking over point guard duties over Brian Lynch.

John Seyfert lead the team with 5 rebounds. He did make one good play for a traditional 3 point play. If he could do that the whole game, he could be a good center.

Corey Easley should be moved to small forward. Does not belong in the middle.

Andrew Strait still looks promising for the future.

I expect the Griz to beat Southern Utah on thursday, but I sure hope they can make it look like a game against Santa Clara on saturday right after the Griz kick New Hampshire's butt in football.

I give up on Seyfert! He could be the best center in the league hands down. All the talent in the world. He is a paper tiger, he is too timid, if he has a 6-4, 180 guy between him and the basket he feels he is covered and will pass it out. He has been doing this since highschool and Romar, Tinkle and Kysco have not been able to light a fire under him. As a Bobcat fan I would say keep starting him, as a basketball fan I would start Corey Easley. Corey Easley may not be an overwhelming force on the inside, but he is active and compared to Seyfert he is a better center.

I would like to see Matthews at the point. He played this position at the JC level and looked very good at the point during the pre-season scrimmage. He is quick, a good passer and ball handler and defends well. He also can penetrate. Lynch really struggled with the pressure last night. Martin struggled too but improved as the game went on plus he shot the heck out of the ball. Even though he didn't shoot much, Farr played extremely well. He handles pressure very well and also is a very good passer and defender. He really helped the GRIZ deal with Northridge's pressure. Easley really struggled with defensive and rebounding postioning in the post. Dlouhy had a nice game and played some power forward along side Farr (at the small forward) to help the GRIZ deal with Northridge's quickness and pressure.
