Griz 90, Argos 46

Playing in front of, oh, I would say, around 700 to 800 bored fans, the Griz beat the Argos 90 to 46. There were so few fans the PA didn't even announce the attendance. Guess it would have been somewhat embarrassing. Lady Griz never came close to having this few fans for a game on tuesday (or anyday) against an NAIA school before. But then, for the administration, it sure beat refunding all that money to people who bought tickets to watch the Griz play Cal State-Northridge.

Anyway, The Griz didn't play that poorly for most of the game, though the first 10 to 15 minutes of the game I was kind of worried about this team. Only up 25 to 20 with, I believe, under 10 minutes in the first half before they had a run and the game was pretty much over after that.

Well, against an NAIA school there wasn't going to be anyway that this game would be exciting to watch. If it was close, you know the Griz are playing terrible, but if it was what you would expect it to be (a wipe out, and it was), it would be not very exciting due to the one sidedness. So, why did I go to it? I don't know. Guess I just am a martyr for Griz basketball. Sick.

Go Griz.

A lot of kids must have played since the higher scorer only had 14 pts for the Griz. Still it is too bad more people are not showing up. We use to play GF a lot in the old days and there would be at least 3K in the stands. I realize GF use to be a better team. .

It seems like we used to have weekend crowds of 9,000+ and weekday crowds of 5,000+ back in the early 1980's.

You said 700-800 people, but the Missoulian said 2,728 in attendance. Either way it is poor.

I hope the confidence from the wins and the new 3-guard lineup helps us against the bobcats. Didn't MSU trap and pressure us into numerous turnovers (and result in easy points for MSU)?

Go Griz!

Actually Missoulian said half of the announced crowd, so about 1000 according to them, although to me looked like way less. It was a boring, and sloppy game, but what could we expect against GF. At least it gave the guys a little break and a chance to practice their new lineup and give some other guys some minutes. Pederson did well while he was in, he can nail the 3's.

9,000 fans? You might want to check that stat again. There no way you can fit 9,000 fans in there for a basketball game. I'm not even sure if you can even fit 9,000 people in there for a concert with the entire floor covered with chairs.

You might want to check the stats wbtfg. Griz have had attendance close to 9,000 fans. Of course, when you are looking, you should go back before the remodel of the fieldhouse. Remodel lost 1,500 seats, most of them between the baskets (which is a big reason attendance has dropped after the remodel. Maybe if they rotated the floor, wouldn't have lost so many seats between the baskets, thus not lost so many fans that had seats between baskets before remodel and lost them after the remodel).

In the '80s and early '90s, the Griz did average close to 8000 fans for Conference games. Overall during those years was upper 6,000 to lower 7,000 in attendance. But from early '90s, basketball in general was taking a back seat to football and lost interest among many of the fans.

Anyway, this game should have been called an exhibition game. The benefit went to the players, and not the fans.

My memory might be a little off, sorry Mr. No Vowels. I probably should have written 8,000+ instead of 9,000+.

It looks like UM averaged 7,000 to 8,000 in the late-1970's and early-1980's, because the old field house had a little more seating.

Everyone played except for Chris McKay who was having some back problems. Everyone who played scored except for Mansell.

I have to say that the first half of the game was highly amusing but only because it looked more like a blooper tape than a basketball game. Overall it was pretty boring though and a lot of people left early...I don't know what they were expecting. It was really good to see nearly everyone play and Jon Wilkins played in his first home game which probably elicited the biggest cheers of the second half.
