Griz 80, Hornets 83

Griz lost a very close game today on the road. This game, they didn't quit, fought to the very end. Unfortunately, they still fell short.

18 - 20 from the freethrow line for Sac state doomed the Griz in this game. Also, Griz turned the ball over more than 20 times (23 TOs), and Hornets scored plenty off of them. More than 15 points, for sure.

26 points by Davis 9 - 13 from field, 8-10 freethrow line.

Other scorers:
11 points Dlouhy,
12 points by Strait.

Griz shot much better today. Shot like this against MSU, Griz would have won.

Sac State is now within a half game from the Griz.

Griz have a long rest (1 week) before they take on PSU and EWU. Will be very important for the Griz to win those games if they want to host the first round of the tournament.

MSU was blown out by NAU. If Montana sweeps the home games, and beats NAU in Flaggstaff, who knows. MSU may just stumbe and Griz get second place. Will be very tough though. Especially trying to get a win over PSU.

Weber State beat EWU.
PSU blew out ISU.

Sounded like a good game on the radio. I don't really get the shot selection at the end (3 pointer by Dloughy with 19 seconds left, down by 2). I suppose the shot was there, but even if it had gone it would have given Sac enough time to run a play for the last shot down by 1. I suppose on the road you play to win and not OT though.

What happened to Matthews this game? Did he make the trip? Sounded like on the post game show that Farr was in the dog house last week for "selfish" play, but that he and Krysco had worked it out, although Krysco did cite trying to be flashy as a reason for Farr 5 TO's against Sac.

Sounds like it will take another year for this to be Krysco's team. I have to believe that Farr and Matthews are not buying into the system, and that is why their playing time goes up and down so much. From Mt Gym Rat it sounds like Criswell is having a hard time fitting in as well. I think Matt Martin will be fine, he just needs experience. If the coaches and players do get on the same page then this should be a very good team. If they keep fighting each other then 500 seasons will be the norm. Something tells me Krysco won't allow that to happen.

:o :o Very good recovery for Griz. They do not have to win on the road to end up in the Big Sky Tournament. Portland State on Sat should be interesting. I am not as worried about Criswell. He was fine at Sac and will do what it takes to win. :o :o

I only listened to the game so have few comments. I continue to wonder why no Virgil Matthews. We could at least use him to spell Martin at the point. Lynch has a tough time against quick teams like Sac. Late last season we went to a smaller line-up and had considerable success late in the season. Given the lack of productivity of Seyfert, I'd like to see Farr start. I think we need Strait to come off the bench although he and Davis should be on the floor a lot at the same time. Farr could spell Dlouhy and Criswell also. I think having more quickness in would also take some pressure off of Criswell. He only took 3 shots last night.

It seems that playing Virgil at the point some would be a good idea-at
least some of the time. The turnovers are horrible. Too much 3ball shooting on nights its not working-go hi-lo with Strait and Kammaar.

Hi Griz fans, it was a very good game last night. I was there and both teams played real hard. Kamarr Davis was unstoppable (thank god for Hornet fans this is his last year). In four career games against us, he has scored 24, 24, 9 (in his return from ineligibility) and 26 last night.

I think both teams like to get up and down. I was surprised you did not take a game from MSU because they really can't handle up and down the court. Good luck and the only way I think we would see you again is if both teams are in the championship game.

GO HORNETS!!!
BEAT THE CATS!!!

After listening to the game last night and attending most of the home games this year, it boggles my mind that Coach K still hasn't found a consistent rotation. Certain players play significant minutes one game and then don't even step foot on the court the next. Maybe I'm crazy, but at this point in the season, most teams around the country have a patterned rotation involving eight to nine guys. I understand that in certain games, you need to put a wild card into the game to give the team a spark, but being that the team has more coaches than the Chicago Bulls, you would hope that the the coaching staff could put their heads together and formualte a plan, if nothing else a rock pile.

5 things Coach K could do:

1. With a young team, why not call timeout with 26 secs left and call a play.

2. Virgil is better than Lynch, would back up Martin better, and could play with Martin when Criswell needs a break.

3. Martin and Criswell had a total of 10 shots for 10 pts, also combined for 13 assists,9 by martin, you have to let these guys get more shots than this. Martin had 4 of his shots in the last minutes of the game, if they miss they get pulled. They are shooters, let them shoot themself into a rythm.

4. Calling his own players out for a bad game in the media, may be the worst thing he has done. What is a worse way to get a college player going than hearing that your coach is bashing you in the pregame. (i was impressed with his comments after the Sac game, maybe he is getting the point that it doesn't help.)

5. Going with what some others have said, get consistent. Let a guy no his role, and let him do his role. Playing 20 mins one game and 0 the next isn't a role.

p.s. did anyone witness martin's pull up shot late in the game, according to the radio it was 35 ft, by my estimation that is nearly 16 ft behind the line, if so thats a bomb.(NBA is around 23)
