Griz 2018 and 2019 Schedule Filler after Liberty Goes FBS?

It was announced a couple weeks ago that Liberty intends to go FBS, but just before that they agreed to a home and home again with us. I know most FBS conferences don't allow FCS road games but if Liberty is an independent, would that be allowed? Anyone have any insight into whether they respect the deal or are leaning towards keeping it? Would be pretty unique to have a home game against an FBS team while in FCS.

"This agreement may be terminated by either party if that party's sports team is reclassified to a different NCAA membership division during the term of this contract," the agreement read.

"If they wanted to still play it, there'd be some interest for us to keep it," said Martin, who handles UM football scheduling duties. "It'd be cool to have an FBS team at home.

"... They could find what they need FBS-wise and then realize it's hard to find anybody else and keep Montana."

Outside possibly they keep the games. Maybe a long shot though..

I would guess they cancel the agreement. Liberty pays us to play there in 2018 and finds a money game against a Power 5 team in 2019.

I hope it all gets cancelled and we never play that place again. :thumb:
Why? You'd rather play Panhandle St.?

Yes I'd rather play MT Tech than be associated with place.

Or we could take their fat religious pay check (I know we dont currently need it with how much money the UofM is rolling in) and potentially get an FBS win while at it.

to me, that is a wonderful place to be associated with and like badlands says the money is green.

If we are going to be able to home and home with FBS, let get up with App State again. Great Fans!

Home and home with FBS will not happen.

Yep most cases home and home with FBS teams won't happen. It might be a different story with independent programs, but even then the chances of an FBS Independent playing at an FCS venue, even as a new FBS program, are extremely low.

I would say zero when that FBS independent can get more $$$$ playing another FBS school.

Liberty won't be FBS until 2019. If the games were reversed (Missoula 2018; Lynchburg 2019) there wouldn't be such a big problem. Such a reschedule is probably more complicated than it looks, however.
