Gresch Jensen

He said "older" quarterback. I think those of you who don't think Brady should, or is going to start his senior year should just pull a Rip Van Winkle and sleep off the 2016 season. That way, when you wake up, you won't have missed anything. It will be like it never happened for you guys lol. It's amazing how some can not see that Stitt is going to roll with BG, and, at least with all the quarterbacks on the current roster, he should roll with him. SMH

I agree, It's BG right now. But a lot can happen between now and kickoff of 2016. To basically guarantee BG will be the starter in 16 is a bit premature IMO. Likely yes, but for sure, no.

Hammer, I don't disagree with that at all. You're right, a lot can happen. But, and it's only my opinion, based off what I've observed and what I've heard and been told that Stitt loves BG and isn't trying to replace him as the starter. I guess we'll find out in 7-8 months though.

After hearing of the news that Willy Pflug is moving on and feeling sorry for myself, I decided to watch the highlight reel of our incoming commit, Gresch Jensen. Check it out as it will help take away that sting.

Couple observations:
- big kid at 6'2 and 208 lbs
- stands tall in pocket and delivers a nice ball
- can buy time with his feet to hit open receiver
- already runs Stitt's base spread with 1 back and often no back
- gets rid of the ball quickly
- can run too and not afraid to take a hit

http://www.hudl.com/athlete/1874939/gresch-jensen

Keep in mind this is Stitt's guy. He will supposedly be here in the spring like Willy did. I'm guessing he is a big part of why Willy is moving on. I wish Willy the best of luck. I hope he doesn't come back to haunt us too much!

Crap! I'm wondering two things. 1. Did we potentially recruit him as an LB? 2. Who's the receivers coach at Auburn Mountainview? Looked like a bunch of little Jamaal Jones' out there. If he's coming early, that guy's going to compete immediately.

Isn't this the last year of the scholarship reductions? Montana should get those 3 back starting next year? I think it is more Stitt cutting his perceived "fat" than dealing with scholarship loss

I think we're back to full schollies in 2017

A fellow egriz buddy of mine and I saw Gresch play in a game with Auburn High School in October. He clearly fits Stitt's offense and looking forward to seeing him in maroon and silver. From talking to his principal, his Dad ( who is a Sidney native), and others at the game the young man is not just a promising athlete but a great student and terrific character guy as well.

This, xctly the perfect QB for this playbook. has good eyes and feet.

That video is pretty dirty! That guy gets it.. So many highlights of him hitting receivers between the zones. I only had to watch about 3 minutes of it to know he'll be competing for the starting job next season. He can make guys miss, break tackles, and he looks down field the whole time doing it, Gets the ball out quick and decent sized QB that can run Stitt's offense..

He is impressive for sure. Glad to see we are getting back to recruiting QB's, rather than tweeners who can run and kind of throw the ball.

No one is competing with Gustafson next year at QB. Not a chance dude. No way anyone new comes in executes this offense better than Brady.

Why not? That kid knows how to run that type of offense. That kid is gonna run circles around Brady. Stitt sold his soul to recruit this guy. There's a reason why he let go of pflug. Do you really think Stitt is that giddy about Brady?

Because the speed/talent of college defenses is a big step up from high school defenses. Gus is up to that speed and has a year under his belt in Stitt's offense. Jensen may have run a similar offense in high school, but it is not exactly Stitt's offense. No reason not to redshirt him and then give him a shot to be the starter in 2017.

Not a knock on Gresch Jensen but a question for egriz - Has Montana ever recruited a quarterback who isn't the best we have ever had and will lead us back to a National Championship? I think you can look back on them all and read something to that effect about them. There is nothing wrong about being excited and enthusiastic about the quarterbacks, or all athletes, who commit to us. That's what fans do! However, the facts are that some signees do not make it. I get excited over every signee but also realize that my excitement is emotional and that reality in 2 or 3 years may temper my excitement for a particular player.

Only time is going to tell how successful Gresch will be and I hope he is successful and the one that will win a National Championship. Grades will not be a problem for him but if a player gets hurt, doesn't have the grades, can't fully understand the offense and comply with the work ethic that the coaches demand it isn't going to work for him no matter how talented he is.

We normally have 4 or 5 quarterbacks in the program. They all can't be starters. That said and with people implying a freshman can't beat out an upper class quarterback is not factual either. It is very difficult and I won't argue that. All one has to do is look at NAU and Cookus to see a freshman can start and be a very strong contributor. FCS freshman of the year is quite a testimony to that fact.

I agree, I think it's pretty rare for a true frosh QB to come in and run away with the starting job, unless the cupboard is extremely rare. Gus certainly isn't perfect, but I'd be pretty surprised if Jensen came into spring ball and took his job.

This right here. Had the exact same threads about Pflug...and now we see where that went. He looks great on tape, but he has the exact same shot at being great as any other QB that has come through UM. Just gotta wait and see how it plays out.

It appears to me, after watching that tape, that Gresch not only has a good arm and finds receivers well, but he seems to have figured out how to play successfully behind a rather porous high school o-line. That could certainly come in handy IMO.

And to Gresch's and his offense major kudos given AMV had basically no defense.

Never understood all the hubaloo about WillyP...or Gustafson when he was recruited...JJ excited me a bit, he turned out better than I thought he would. Jenson looks good. Physical attributes are all there, ability to read and keep eyes down field. But, no one is going to know how he grasps the playbook, or if anything mental comes up that fucks with him....

Time will tell, we will see..

Exactly

What we know about Gresch and correct me if I am wrong, but Stitt has worked with him already in camp. He has seen (hopefully) his ability to read the defense and deliver the ball. Highlight tapes are meaningless. Obviously Stitt feels like this kid can process what the Stitty is dishin so I can't help but to get excited for him to get here.

I'm guessing it's his size, athleticism, mechanics, and smarts that Stitt is drawn to.

Ranked in importance? 1.) Intelligence 2.) Mechanics 3.)Athleticism 4.) Size?
