Great Quote

Heard a great quote recently. "Brutal honesty is only valuable when you also give honest appreciation and honest joy, otherwise you are just being a dick when you can."

Have never seen people so upset over a win. The red carpet has always been a problem, and yea, I got scared as fuck that it was about to go bad again.

But people on this board keep saying we can't recruit, can't develop, can't coach, our scheme sucks, our playcalling sucks, our players are not living up, we don't have the guys.

Hey, I have concerns, too, but at some point, I'd love to hear what the naysayers attribute the constant winning to? I mean, it just keeps happening. If all of that is bad, do we win like 90% if our games out of pure, dumb, unadulterated luck? Wild, if that is the case.

The Griz win so much because:1) good players, 2) good coaching, 3) they all work their asses off. And I’m still sick to my stomach due to the lack of defense tonight. I believe it was John McKay (sp?) when coaching the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, “Coach, what do you think of your team’s execution? I’m in favor of it.” We don’t cover very well but made up for it by tackling even worse.

I’m guessing 50% are drunk on game day, 20% are trolls, 20% are negative nancys. Add in a few weirdos who told you so and that sums up eGriz on game days

I'm not drunk or a troll so I guess that makes me a negative Nancy?? HA. I can't speak for everyone, but I think it's okay to be frustrated with how the defense played. It was not good. I will never trash individual players though because that's just a crappy thing to do to a college kid.

There is 10% left. The drunks are obvious. Compare how they post everyday except game day. I won’t call anybody out but people like you, HHB, Elrod, Hoops are consistent in your posts.

I am absolutely a negative Nancy during game time. It’s a trauma response. Since 2012 and the resulting chaos, I’ve never believed something good will happen during games or with the Univversity unless it actually happens. I’ve never believed a victory was secure because I’ve watched it evaporate too many times. The Stitt years were rough…

That’s why I don’t post during games. All my anxieties about the game manifest as negativity. It gets stressful.

Yeah. I turn into a completely different person. My husband had to tell me to quit beating on the furniture tonight. He's lucky he's still alive. Haha.

we are 100% were we want to be...1-0 in league play...going to be 2-0 next week and 3-0 the week after and yet there are people who are going to bitch, cry and complain each and every game...there will be those who bitch when we win the natty. going to be a great season...get used to it. for the record there was never a second and I watched the entire game that I was in the least bit worried we would end up with the W.

Surely there must be some of us who just get caught up in the game and are not negative people.
Totally. I do that too. I was meaning the people that just never have a good word to say, and then just say "well, hey, I'm being honest." Blunt honesty is only valuable when it incorporates the good side as well, and I've seen you do plenty of that. Don't worry, I threw my hat at the couch yesterday, too. Heart still seems healthy.

I hear that. I watched my daughter pitch four games this weekend. I still pace around for the Griz games, but it’s nothing compared to that.

Oh, and I’m on a strict gag order when she pitches (instituted by her), so it makes it even tougher. Totally agree about those who never seem to have anything good to say.

Mine is too young to have gotten to the point of me needing a gag order, but that sounds so incredibly difficult to follow through on... good on you for doing that for her!

Great quote and I absolutely wear my emotions on my sleeve when I am watching a Griz game. They run from rage to joy. I have gotten better staying away from the computer for a couple of days after a game. I'm not such dck.

It's not easy, but it's necessary. It actually gets easier with every game because, after a certain time, you've seen it all. I've read a lot about it. The thing I'm working on now is not to show any negative body language in the stands. They're always watching us.

I've probably shared this story before, but last summer my other daughter had a four-hour gap between games in a soccer tournament at a huge sports complex. I went over to the baseball part and watched a 17U showcase game. The parents were seasoned veterans, and emotionless. One couple said they watched their son play 1,000+ games since he was little, so they don't get too high or too low anymore. This story is pretty far afield from your topic, but I wanted to share it with another sports parent.

That's appreciated. I remember from when I was young, they kids are definitely always watching, and internalizing. I know I've said this to you before, but you seem like a great dad. The kiddos are lucky to have one like you, and I'm hoping I can give mine the same. I'll work on practicing indifference now while she is trying to put legos together. Usually I do a lot of booing, but I probably need to soften the edges a bit.
