Great Griz-Wildcat rivalry story by Kyle Sample

Kyle Sample has a very unique story in today's Missourian regarding the history of the Griz WSU rivalry over the years (hint: his lede starts with Neil McCarthy). He obviously did a lot of work on this, since he's got quotes from Kareem Jamar, Damian Lilliard, Randy Rahe and Blaine Taylor to spice it up. Excellent read.

Tagged onto the story is the shortest actual pre-game preview I think I've read: a single quote by Travis DeCuire, which reads: "Some guys it brings the best out of them and others it’s intimidating. We’re going to find out a lot about our guys when we get there."

Neil McCarthy did not appreciate the courtside jalapeno and hot pepper cheese pizza delivery.

Found an old Spokesman Review article that ranked the Big Sky Bball venues with Adams Fieldhouse on top...pretty interesting. Would be great to get that spirit back in the building!

That's a great piece.
"Montana State is a certified barn."

Good find BB. I liked that picture of Monson and referee Dan Nickshich. Dan was a good referee and a good guy. He would visit with us "students" at nearly every game. I hope he is doing well.

Does anyone know what has become of the Mega Mouth fan?

Another good article:

Late in Tinkle's career, Weber State brought star player Rico Washington to Dahlberg Arena.
"He was a pretty darn good player," Tinkle said. "He and one of our forwards, Ossie Young, were kind of getting into it. I went to separate them and we were right in front of The Zoo. (Washington) went to say something and I told him, 'Listen, you've got to stop right now or I'm going to throw you into the second row. Those are two of my football buddies and I don't think you'll make it out of there alive.'
"He turned and looked and smiled and said, 'You're right.' "

Yeah, that was a fun read. Man, those were the days.

Anyone else take note that the Reno Sparks Convention Center was only ranked the 6th best facility in the bsc 30 years ago. Can someone remind me where the league decided to host their tournament the next 3 years....

I wonder if the $105 million renovation/expansion project for the Reno Center completed in 2002 improved the facility.

To host the 23rd annual Reno Home and Garden Show, I have no doubt that each of those 105 were dollars very well spent!!

When was the last time it held a basketball game, I wonder....

I'm as against moving it to Reno as anyone simply because of a home court atmosphere, but this one is pretty easy to answer with simple research. The Reno Events Center is home to the Reno Bighorns from of the NBA D-League (http://reno.dleague.nba.com/) who will be playing home games March 2 and 3. Before that they hosted the Erie Bayhawks on Feb. 23. Like I said, I don't like the change at all but it does host basketball...

In addition (from Wiki). Assume that the NBA doesn't just pick any place for its D-League Showcase.

"In 2012 and 2013, the Events Center hosted the NBA D-League Showcase, featuring all of the NBA Development League's teams over a four-day period in early January."

...spoke with a weber alum the other day...
...one of the best newspaper guys I ever met...
...he only had one question to ask of me on it...
...if I wanted the paper left on step or in the box...

... :phat: ...

Was curious to see how many fans in Reno show up on average for their local NBA D-League team.

Average attendance so far this year: 2269

If only 2269 show up to support their local DLeague team I wonder how many will show up to support Big Sky teams at the tournament when it's a bunch of teams that have no connection to Reno.
