Great Article on Bob Stitt and his Offense

So what is the fascination about this guy? He's been at a mid level DII school forever, only made the playoffs 3x in 15 years, and hasn't won anything. Is it simply because he runs a variation of the spread offense that is driving egrizzers to this guy?

if Stitt mirrors his Colorado record at UM, you all would want his head on a stick. But at least he runs the spread? Maybe he is your new OC, but again, if he was such a genius, why is he still at Colorado and who hires the OC before the HC.

No smack intended here, just curious as to the fascination with this guy.

The variation of the spread he runs is created BY HIM...this man is an offensive genius! His spread has made big time FBS schools look like they've never played football before...imagine what he would do to the Cats!

So the spread = wins. OK

When has he played against FBS schools or implemented his offense against FBS schools to make them look so foolish?

Not saying he can't produce at UM, but he sure seems like a reach for your program... a big reach.

Didn't MSU hire a coach from a non-scholly league that accomplished basically nothing previous to MSU?

Two totally different hires. Ash ran a winning football program (125-63-2) and was hired at a time similar to when UM put Delaney in place. MSU was a mess and Ash was hired to both win and clean up the football culture. The culture at UM has been cleaned up admirable by Delaney, but now needs a coach to bring it back to the forefront of the national title race each year.

You obviously failed to read any of the previous posts on this thread that would answer every question you are getting at. He helped West Virginia hang 70 points on Clemson in the Orange Bowl from helping implementation some of HIS offense in a consulting role.

You want to talk the reality of this coach? Ok let's do that. How about the fact that the only degree at his school is engineer. Hence every single one of his 134 players are engineers. Try building a powerhouse, in the RMAC, with a bunch of Math and Science guys!

And yet he has the #2 passing offense, and #3 overall offense in all of D2. And #1 4th down offense as well. The guy can coach!

Coaching at a school with high academic standards is a double edge sword. You get many recruits to play for you because they can and you get many recruits that cannot qualify. It's like Stanford in the PAC12 or Northwestern in the Big 10. Most recruits will choose Stanford over any other Pac12 if they qualify but most will not qualify. It takes a special kind of coach. The arguement that he will do even better at a place like UM is probably not true. It's apples and oranges. Look at Tyrone Willingham's record at Stanford, he was awesome and won the conference. Then look what he did at Washington. I would argue that Washington and Stanford are closer to peer academic institutions than Colorado School of Mines and Montana. We are a liberal arts institution and they have science and engineering. The difference in recruits is like oil and water. Although he is certainly a fine coach at the right place he is not the guy for us here at UM. He would do well at Cal Poly or UC Davis.

This is the reality of this coach....playoffs every 5 or 6 years with early exits. If mediocrity is your thing, this is the coach to hire.....we dilly dallied around when Leipold (107-6) was interested and this will be a huge price to pay.

You need to expand your thinking and look realistically at Colorado School of Mines. This is a top end academic school, not UM where you can go recruit iffy academic guys, he has 109 engineers on his football team. Average ACT score is 29, which is probably more than Alabama combined on their whole team. You're very focused on win/loss which indicates you've done ZERO homework on him. National college football writers find him so fascinating and successful they go to Golden, CO to write articles on him. Dana Holgorson credits his 2012 Orange Bowl win to Stitt. If we want a guy with high wins/losses go get whomever coaches Grand Valley State, or Joe Moglia, or Bo Pelini.. but it's more than W/L that determines a head coach's success.

What? This is simply not true. Head Football coaches must win games to be "successful." Even Head Coaches who innovate and run squeaky-clean programs get shown the door if they don't win. Lots of rocks to turn over to get the real story on Stitt. Realistically he should have moved up by now...winning does matter, and he has not done that enough where he is at in my opinion.

Stitt's offense is highly successful with average high school speed WRs, running 4.8 and 4.9 forty times. Wait until he gets D1 recievers, that run 4.5 and 4.6 forty times.

And btw, how did the last D2 coach do that UM hired, from the state of Colorado, btw? I'm pretty sure that was Griz National Champion Joe Glenn.

Yea, well apply the same speed to the defenses.

Also, Joe Glenn had a proven winning record with a couple of national championships at the DivII level.

Lets go apples to apples. Do you think Joe Glenn would have been this successful at the school of mines?
