Do you think UM got a large number of high quality candidates? I was talking to someone about that today, and they didn't. They wondered if the pay is too low and the firings and Engstrom's reputation in some coaching circles may have limited to the talent pool.

I agree with whomever you spoke with about the "pay for talent" issue. Controlling for pay, I think UM has done a pretty good job searching for talent. We've all but confirmed that Pease, Hauck, Baldwin, Stitt, Wulff, (Leipold?), and probably a few others have at least spoken to UM. I admittedly don't know much about who else is out there who would take the pay we have available.

I agree and hope you realize I was mocking grizindabox's statement about UM botching the search. On a side note, I think this thread has to be an eGriz record for most use of "botch." Maybe there was a bad snap on a PAT in 2003 or something, though.

I think Kent H had been in contact with Beau Baldwin and Beau was on board. However right around that time of the EWU game Baldwins name leaked out and he answered the only way He could.

At this time Bobby resigns from UNLV as he thought he would be a shoe in for the job. Engstrom tells Kent he is not big on Bobby and points out to some past troubles. Bobby put on the back burner which does not sit well with him.

Then the OSU job came open and interest was shown by OSU in Baldwin. Baldwin then tells UM thank but no thanks as he thinks an FBS job is coming. That of course falls flat on Baldwin.

Pease who knows the story on that?! Fog delay....

I think Kent knows TY is a last resort coach he could sign a 1 year deal with.

Meanwhile Balwin is seeing he is not landing the FBS jobs he thought he might get offered. Maybe Baldwin is calling Kent back and Kent is making Baldwin wait?

If I was Baldwin I would show interest in and take the UM job. Beau is a coach at a small time program that has had some success over the past 5 years. However the fan base is small and little to no pressure and again a very small program in reality.

If he takes the UM job he has a minor brush up of the program and can be on top pretty quickly. He would be in front of a much larger and demanding fan base, booster and program. To me larger schools would judge running the program a much better gauge than the EWU job.

Hopefully in the next couple days we have our new coach and we can start figuring things out from there!

Length of contract may be more of an issue than salary, especially after Pflugrad. The BOR needs to step into the modern world.

But other than that, what's wrong with the selection process? Should they have hired a coach on Sunday? Which coach?
