1. "Montana is 7-1 overall, its best eight-game start since 2009,"

2. "They’re 28-5 at home since head coach Bobby Hauck returned in 2018, including 25-2 since the start of 2019."

3. "The Griz have won four straight home games against ranked teams: No. 14 Southeast Missouri State, No. 4 Eastern Washington, No. 3 Montana State and No. 3 Weber State."

4. "The Hornets have outscored their opponents 72-20 in the first quarter while the Griz have a 51-24 edge. UM is 7-0 when scoring first and 0-1 when its opponent finds the scoreboard first. The Griz are also 5-0 when leading after one quarter and 5-0 when leading at halftime."

5. "UM’s rush defense leads the FCS with 75.8 yards allowed per game and has 21 tackles for loss in the past two games. The Hornets counter with the No. 3 rush offense in the conference at 189.6 yards per game."

That's gonna be the key, IMHO. Make them one dimensional. If Sac gets < 100 yards rushing, I think they lose.

SS can more than that, in my view. Their qb is the leading rusher, averaging 50. He is apparently good, fast, elusive, and has a nice arm. To me, it's another game where the team needs few TO (ideally none) and few mistakes. Too bad it won't be colder for the game.

Agreed on the TO's. We HAVE to win that battle, and according to Brint's analysis, the odds of that are good.

I'm going from memory here since I don't have the article in front of me but a couple of other facts from the Missoulian.
- Sac has kicked off 50 times so far this season and only have 12 touchbacks and a couple out of bounds kicks. Jr. should get some opportunities to take a kickoff to the house!
- Different story on their punting. They have punted 22 times and only 4 have been returned for a total of 10 yards. Numbers could be off some but they are close.

My hope is that Junior has exactly ONE chance to return a kick. That being either the opening kickoff or the kickoff to start the 2nd half.

I really think Montana matches up well with sac. We will see, but having watched several of their games I’m pretty sure if the Griz defense plays like it did vs both UNC and Idaho they’ll win by 10 or more. The defense is really hot right now. I keep waiting for the offense to put together a full four quarters…..maybe this will finally be the week!

Altitude will probably change that for tonight’s game. Hopefully not.

So as it turns out we DID make them one dimensional, and some might argue ZERO dimensional. They got 40 yards BELOW their season rushing average, and completed just 14 of 39 pass attempts for just 119 yards.

A defensive performance for the ages.

Conversely, Sac had the 2nd best rushing defense in the BSC and just gave up 305 to the Griz. Plus a 98 yard TD pass/run to put us over 500 yards total offense.

An offensive performance for the ages as well! :thumb: :thumb:

Nice call, grizfan.

Most complete game yet, and STILL things to clean up and improvements that can be made. It's shocking how far this team has come this year. Hats off to the coaching staff and to the guys themselves for playing their hearts out.
