Good Barometer Next Week

I didn't come here to talk smack. You all know I am a Cat fan. My objective take on yesterday is that first games of the year are not a good indicator of how good a team will be. There is always a lot of mistakes and the game plan is kept very basic because you don't want to give anything away going into the conference schedule. In the Cats case, they had a basic game plan as to not give anything away for next week's big game with SDSU.

Putting it in perspective, the Griz are in a much different place going into the season than the Cats. The Griz with their new QBs and OC are going to take time to develop. The schedule gives them time to do this. It looked like they are in a better position this year with their OL and at RB which was needed. I think it will be a different and better team come November. On the other hand the Cats are a seasoned team with solid QBs and with a lot of depth. Yesterday, they played without their starting WRs, Alexander, McCullagh and Taco Dowler. Also their starting tight end, Trayton Pickering and one of their best OL JT Reed. Next week will be a huge test and we will see where they really are. Also, the Cats as we know have a really tough schedule.

Anyway, both teams came out of yesterday with things to work on this week. Next week will tell us more about each team. With the two teams starting the season in different places, it is going to be interesting to see where each is in November.

Utah Tech has nice uniforms and a new name, but they are the same Dixie State……terrible! I don’t see where a game against them is a barometer for anything!
So do you think the griz will have an easy win next week on the road against them.

Yes I do.

The Bobcats could have scored 70 if they kept their starters in the entire game.

Love the example here, given they scored 63. Pro tip, inflate the number a little bit more.

MSU is a fairly veteran team that's had a system built up and ready to go with one of the top offenses in the country. Montana has two new starting QBs, a new OC, and a virtually all jumbled up coaching staff and are currently selected as a middle of the pack team in the conference. It'll be a good barometer I suppose but I really don't expect Montana to show out as well as the cats did.
Never mind that MSDUI played Dixie St. at home and we will be on the road. MSDUI has yet to show they can play on the road.

Cats were rebuffed in 4 straight running plays on their first drive. 1st and goal from the 3. 2d and 1. 3d and 1. 4th and 1. No score.

Cat scoring drives were 53 and 15 yards in first quarter. The 2d after a pick.

Cats later scored after a pick. From the 14.

Cats scored 21 in the 4th Q. Last TD at 1:46 in game.

Cats had 16 first downs.

I watched only first half.

Cats took awhile to get going and then looked fine. Utah Tech was weak, and threw some killer picks in its own territory, including 1 in the first Q. I don't put much stock in 3 4th Q TD's for the Cats. Cat D didn't give UT much.

Cats could have scored 70 if they had scored 4 TD's in the 4th Q, instead of only 3. UM would have scored 56 if they had scored 4 TD's in the 4th Q.

If the coaches don't give up on the passing game and the development of Vidlak what happens this year isn't critical. Bobby is building a program to not only compete with the cats but dominate them. It will take a few years but if he stays the course it will happen.

Your paragraph sounded a lot like “ If the good Lord’s willing and the creek don’t rise.”

I would say that this year is very critical for his development for the future, and you can build for the future and work on winning now. I think we saw it in 2018 with how the staff chose to play games(and paid dividends in 2021 with Sneed), or in 2021 when Junior got moved to the backfield. I do think we are at a point now where the staff gets to be much more critical about smaller aspects, instead of in full rebuild mode. It’s why we saw a restructuring and not a full overhaul of the coaching staff. This staff isn’t going to give up on anything especially the passing game.

At the very least the Griz and scats will have played a common opponent. Fresh meat to argue about.

Oh perfect. We can then read more posts from turd about how Bobby stole his girlfriend and the Griz putting up 60 means absolute failure. The Griz are doomed and the Cats are national champions. Can’t wait. On another note - Turds alter ego(s) sound the same. They all have the same writing style and pathetic infantile ramblings where they call be stupid or something similar. Becoming predictable and doesn’t fool anyone on this site. Do better turd. Be better turd boy.
Griz on the road and Cats were at home. Let’s see how this plays out. I already blame Bobby. Another coach would have them traveling on a better schedule with better meals. He needs to go. Just ask turd.

A few years? 5 years isn’t enough?

Hoops puffing up today after a few guys got banned. You'll look smarter if you stick to Grizzly running game commentary.

SpWhy doesn't our talented running back "room" ever get to run in the first quarter?

Do you think I'm 'turd'? Ask Elrod or hoops. I assure you I'm not. Hells Bells, go to the source and ask 'turd.'
Your post is like the plot to the movie 'Murder By Death,' without the humor.

No, I don’t think you are turd ball. Totally agree on the two you cited previously. Admittedly, I am no damn comedian. You have me there 77.

Well, I'm glad that's cleared up. Arguing is what this site is all about. A common opponent, early in the season, is just something new to chew on.

Like I said Hoops, first games are full of mistakes. Yes they had some mix- ups on that first drive of the season. But, they did go on to have over 600 yds of offense over 400 on the ground using 7 different running backs.

Both the Cats and Griz have things to work on this week. I am sure both teams will probably look better next week.

Who got banned? You'd look smarter if you had more posts about the Griz and less about me, most of which of stupid.

In first Q:

UM R, P, P

R, R, P

R, P, P

P, P, P

P

So, 4 runs and 9 passes. First 3 drives started with runs. First plays were 4 runs and 3 passes. Then 6 passes in row.

I was impressed with the cats running game and even the passing game.Humphrey could be the real deal hard to believe he is a true freshman. There were a couple dropped balls that should have been caught. That kicker is also someone to watch. I predict he has some long range fg's, it does look like he might break his leg on every kickoff tho.. be interesting to see how the run game goes next week for you guys.
