Good, Bad, Ugly - Savannah St

OL should be in the "Good" category. They played well in the Washington game too. People are letting their performance the past couple years cloud there judgement of how they are performing this year. They will need to step it up to give our Freshman QB confidence.

If the coach thinks a player is the best corner in the conference and has NFL potential, that corner needs to win most 50-50 balls (unless Kupp is the receiver). Nice catch by the receiver, but a top corner needs to stop that reception.

As this is your most specific area of expertise, what can he do to not let that happen again? Was his position bad? Didn't look for the ball enough? Time his jump a bit better? Defensive technique in pass protection is something I know next to nothing about. I would love to hear your thoughts.

He had good but not great position. He closed very well at the end. I thought he was going to get up high enough to make the play. He seemed to touch the ball, but perhaps didn't quite get there. He was probably an inch or two away from making the play. I assume he has enough hops to get up and make that play. My guess is that he was surprised he didn't make the play. The receiver made a nice play and a ball that isn't easy to catch (with a db right there and his hands right up near the ball). I would have rarely made the play. So, no criticism from me.

A great player/corner has to make that play (again, unless a Kupp quality receiver is involved). The play needs to be made at least 4 out of 5 times, or so. Perhaps this was the 5th, and he would make the play the other 4 times.

Again, no criticism from me. He's a terrific player.

I will look up the height of the receiver later. If the receiver is much taller than McKinley, then that would make the play tougher and a ball thrown to exactly the right place.

agreed, I'm impressed with the improvement in the OL. But if there ever was a gut check moment, this would be it.
