Good, Bad, Ugly - Sacred Heart

Bad: Not putting this game away early so that the QB back-ups could play. Personally, if we ever do get in that position this season, I would like to see Flowers get first chance. Jensen is done no matter what after this season and we may lose Flowers to the Portal if he thinks he will never get a chance here.
I think Flowers is pretty aware he’s not playing until Ah Yat leaves. Some back up minutes aren’t going to keep him here if he wants to play.

I was really impressed with this game. My biggest concern over the first few games was a seemingly stale, limited offensive scheme. Well. That’s why Pease is OC and I’m ranting on egriz. Great plays were made by a great QB. We have some fine receivers. We have an embarrassment of riches at RB. This passing performance will reopen the middle for Gillman, because stacking the box just isn’t going to stop this team anymore. I wanted to see some defense pressure from all those blitzes and we finally got some of that.

I think it’s funny. We play stale ball and fall behind (which we’ve done 4 times this year), then rally to win and people bitch.

We come out of the gate strong, lead from the opening gun to the final ticks of the clock, people bitch.

ya’ll are some fickle sonsabitches…

They only scored a touchdown on 6 of 9 drives so I fully understand the criticism of the offense.

Great - Keali’i Ah Yat’s performance: He threw for a career-high 5 touchdown passes and added a rushing score. He was 27 of 33 passes for 349 yards, showing elite efficiency and command.

Fast start: Griz jumped out to a 22–0 lead in the first quarter, overwhelming Sacred Heart early and setting the tone.

Explosive plays: Ah Yat connected on deep TDs of 43, 49, and 51 yards, showcasing Griz’s vertical threat and playmaking ability.

Good - Balanced receiving corps: 11 different Grizzlies caught passes, led by Wortham’s 7 receptions for 132 yards and 2 TDs, highlighting depth and distribution.

Special teams spark: Punt returns totaled 90 yards, including a 44-yarder by Deck, helping flip field position.

Fourth-quarter response: After Sacred Heart cut the lead to 29–21, Griz answered with two late TDs to seal the win.

Bad - Third-quarter lull: Montana was shut out in the third quarter, allowing Sacred Heart to creep back into the game. Sacred Heart had outscored opponents 50-7 and the Griz 66-22. Sacred Heart came out on top in this game.

Run game stagnation: We rushed for just 135 yards on 33 carries (4.1 avg), with no breakout runs and limited ground control.

Ah Yat missed a few wide open deeper receivers on completions to underneath receivers and made a few bad decisions on RPOs. One was on a 4th and 2 in which Fonoti was stopped short.

Ugly - Defensive lapses late: Sacred Heart scored three consecutive touchdowns from the second through fourth quarters, including two TD passes to Hangey, exposing soft spots in coverage.

Letting off the gas after getting the 22-0 lead.

Missed assignments on Sacred Heart pass plays which led to large gains in the 3rd quarter.

Well last year was traumatizing so we're a little neurotic and distrustful. 🥺 😵‍💫

Not true. They scored when it was 22-0 to make it 22-7.
Then we scored right back to make it 29-7.
Then they scored twice to make it 29-21.
Then we scored twice to make it 43-21.

As for the good...:

We kept their all world running back (#20, Summers) limited on breakout plays. He ran for 243 last week and I only remember one good run of 27 yards. We keyed on him successfully. Don't know why they wanted to run a 155 pound back up the middle so much.?

Bobby used to do that all the time with the Nguyen brothers...

OK...they were slightly bigger than that.
