Good, Bad, Ugly - PSU

Good

- a road win against a team who is better than their record IMO.
- Justin Freaking Strong went beast mode
- Jeremy Freaking Calhoun went beastmode
- Alijah Lee continues to make good things happen with his touches
- Strahm and Banks were both disruptive
- The OL showed some signs of DOLA and I saw a lot of road grading til the whistle
- Keenan Curran had a big game with some great grabs
- Purdy solid on critical FGs
- putting up 45 points against a pretty good defense (I didn't think they would get over 40)
- the D stepping up when it really needed to. They got PSU to turn the ball over on downs in the red zone. Then Gresch threw a pick bringing them right back out and they forced a 3 and out. Then they made PSU turn it over on downs again down on the UM 20. Then they were assignmemt sound on the fake FG. I also liked some of the pressures Semore dialed up with safety blitzes

Bad

- refs not calling a hold to save their lives. They held Schye (or tackled him) on 99% of the plays
- PSU is a cheap, chirpy team and I'm glad they got called on some of their bullshit
- the inability to stop the QB run even when they know it's coming. It's a bad trend now. Teams will game plan it every week.
- way too many yards given up and open receivers
- Sandry seems hobbled. Going down hurt every single game. Love him wanting to play but it's turning a bit into like last year when they played an unhealthy Yamen too much and he was a liability.

Ugly

- our kick coverage is uglier than the inflatable bobcat helmet that pukes the Cats players onto the field. Seriously it's the worst I've ever seen, ever. Just kick it out of bounds. That's how bad it is
- the targeting call on Buss. Our D got a little more chippy after that and I liked it.

Notable - when our freshman QB has an off night but still goes 23-38 (60%) for 284 yards

Not only the coverage, but how about the sh!tty kicks. HS teams have kickers who can kick it out of the EZ; I would guess Purdy can as well, but we have the punter kicking off. Averages about the 10 yard line, frequently shorter, where the returner takes it with a full head of steam. Then there's our return game..... not sure I have seen a block all year. No scheme; Toure gets nailed about the 17. No wonder he's getting hesitant. Just what you need on a KO return.

Went to the game. Kick coverage and blocking were atrocious. Watching return teams freaking whiffing on blocks letting 5-6 PSU players converge. What was really bad was pure undisciplined kick coverage. Lots of people outside of their lanes and taking really poor angles. This absolutely needs to be shored up or it will cost us a game. Or momentum like last week. Kick coverage is far too lackadaisical.

Freshman QB and o line are looking good. So nice to see week to week improvements this year in the trenches.

Why do we have Tourre returning KO's, he runs up to the first wave and almost stops, have him look at MM return tapes. No better yet have JLM do the returns for he is wayyyyy faster and understands when you hit the first wave you must be going fast, make the cut and then go faster.

Props to the O- LINE DOLA (all caps, they deserve it)..... please keep that up.

Special teams have to improve!

FG Kicking is way ahead of last year...

But I cannot figure out what has happened to Kickoffs and UM's Punter the last few games.

Thats a good point, Since they are looking to spread the ball on O, and JLM is not getting many balls thrown to him... he should be UM's return man on ALL Kicks!!!

Need to add one more to the good....Favorosa showed up last night. Played a good game and showed glimpses of how good he can be.

I like it when RB's return Kick Off's. Someone that is stouter, more physical, and is going to hit the crease full speed. You can't take too much time for blocks to develop. We have some backup running backs with speed that might be good in the role.

Try Favors, he isn't getting and RB play so would be fresh and maybe want to go full out. Return game last year on kick offs was horrible as was coverage. That area is not getting job done and Stitt stuck with Niekampoop....might want to make a change now, give a young guy like Shann a chance to see what he can do. It would at least somewhat appease many people that think he should have dealt with the issue in off season.

The failure of not calling the holding calls was surprising even by the extremely low BSC standards. The conf should be embarrassed
