Good, Bad, Ugly - Idaho St

Ugly- the officials handling that series of kickoffs. That was just a pure comedy act. I will watch the game and hope to get some kind of understanding of that.
The penalty on kickoffs going out of bounds is not the other team gets the ball at the 35. It's technically 30 yards from the spot of the kick, which from the main kickoff position works out to be the 35 yard-line.

Because of the unsportsmanlike penalty on us after their second TD, they kicked off from the 50. When the ball went out of bounds, we were told we would get the ball at the 20 (30 yards from the spot of the kick), which is not an advantageous spot for Bobby, so he made them rekick after a 5-yard penalty. They just kicked it out again, because then we would get it at the 25, which Bobby then basically said, "we can do this all day", and made them kickoff again. Kind of a weird back and forth gamesmanship battle between Hauck and Phenecie there. The officials did everything right.

Thanks for the explanation. I actually figured it out, when I watched the game from DVR. While at the game, I was pretty confused. Never seen anything like that, at any level.

Thanks for the explanation. I was wondering what that was.

Good: Dalton Sneed, WOW. He just willed this team to the comeback. One of the best QBs in the FCS without a doubt.

Bad: Dalton Sneed, WOW. Man, you have just got to learn when to get down. Why hurdle a tackler and land flat on your back when you are up by 30?

Ugly: Dalton Sneed, WOW. We are going to miss this guy. Gretsch who?

Don’t know where it would fall, Sneed during TV timeout after Griz went three and out in first third quarter possession, he entered defensive huddle on field and said something. Looked like Defense responded positively and offense stepped up after that.

Good -- Eastwood redeeming himself in garbage time and LOVED seeing all his teammates on the sidelines dapping him up. Obviously well liked and everyone wants to see him do well. Well deserved.

Good point PeauxRouge :thumb: I was thinking the same thing - he showed some good moves on that run. Always glad to see a player stay ready, especially when you move from #1 back to #3.

Another Good -- I didn't notice it at the time, but Cam handed the ball to Eastwood and then sprinted around the corner and made the block that sprung Eastwood to the endzone. LOVE seeing the effort from everyone on the team!
Cam’s block looked key to breaking Eastwood loose, and then Cam sprinted to the end zone to congratulate Eastwood. Team players, all in.

Only saw the game on highlights, so far, but agree. He went downfield and sealed a guy to spring Eastwood. Great play, we are in good hands when Superman hangs up his cape.

Cam's block was impressive. So was our 3rd string QB (Graves) making tackle on punt coverage. Griz QB's are tough and physical.

Ugly.....empty west side seats.

Yeah, dafuq? Pay all that money and leave at halftime... What kind of fan is that? I wish the game was twice as long and I wouldn’t miss a minute.

I agree. Lots of empties around us. Homecoming crowds, meh.

A lot of people starting to head out when the rain was really coming down, and may have just decided to stay out. I was not expecting as much rain, and got pretty soggy by halftime, so I can't really fault some of the people if they weren't properly prepared (like me) for the steady rain.

Finally getting around to watching the full game...(was in Boston/NE all weekend)....

Good (and not mentioned anywhere I could find)...Sammy Akem yards after CONTACT. He regularly drug 2 and 3 guys 3-5 yards downfield AFTER they had him wrapped up...I’d venture that 25 of his yards were after contact...

Good: Watching Sims sprint stride-for-stride with that RB on the 71 yard TD run. That is NOT a guy I’d want chasing me...fuuuuuckkkk.....

Bad: Akem’s missed TD catch in the 2nd quarter...ended up not mattering as we got the TD anyway, but man that was right there.

Another bad: there were a lot of wide open receivers that the ISU QB just plain missed. Wasn’t “great D” by the Griz, but he was just “off”, for some reason. Rattled, maybe, but guys were getting open, and getting open often. That shit ain’t gonna fly against a better offensive team.

I feel like I've gotten to the point of harping on this but the slow starts are going to bite us in the ass sooner or later. We overcame the big deficit in this one, but this has got to stop being the pattern when we pay better teams. Only against Davis have we been good out of the gate, the other 5 have been slow-shifts from first gear, we need to put people down early and bury them.

Quick! How many points combined have the GRIZ scored in the first quarter this year?

(Hint: It's fewer than we scored in an 8:00 span at UCD)

My view is that the Griz D and crowd likely caused the QB to go from hot to cold. He didn’t just come out on fire, like 8 for 9 or 9 for 10,
and then 8 for 24. I.e. he didn’t just forget how to throw. Phenicie said the stadium atmosphere got to the QB, more than the Hauck hard sack.

As others have said, why do some posters always want to undercut the likely good play of the Griz? I,e. the Griz pass D was awful at the beginning of
the game. Then the Ida St qb became awful and inaccurate for the rest of the game.

That's great. But what happens when the QB DOESN'T get rattled? Guys were running open all the 2nd half, but Struck couldn't hit them (thank god). When we get to a QB who CAN we'd better have that fixed or we're in for a long game.

Most of those wide open guys that Idaho State had running open the entire 2nd half were underneath routes that we were giving up. Granted the QB was having difficulties but we had this wrapped up. Had this been close Montana would have tightened things up. If I remember correctly Monmouth, UNA, Oregon, and Davis has pretty good quarterbacks so it’s not like we haven’t dealt with experience from those guys. This is a good football team and the best is yet to come. :thumb:
