So you call the run conservative and then say the best scenario is picking up 7-8 yards on a run.

Yes. Those two things aren't mutually exclusive.

So the run on first down was conservative because it didn't gain 7-8 yards. If it would have, we wouldn't have an issue.

No. It was conservative because it was an unimaginative call, and it was obvious to everyone watching what was coming. The call was conservative regardless of the result. But, sometime conservative calls are the best option. We can debate whether the run call was correct here, but I don't think there is much room for debate that the WR screen call was terrible.

And yes, had we picked up 7-8 yards on that run, I seriously doubt anyone would be complaining about the call. We didn't. So, here we are.

I didn't like the run call on first down, but I didn't dislike the the other plays calls. They tried to get the ball in the hands of the best play-makers and hoped he would make something happen. It didn't work.

Fair enough, but I expect more from our head coach/play caller than to put the team in bad situations hoping that it somehow works out. That is hardly the mark of a championship-quality offensive philosophy.

Afraid to say it, but the offense has limitations currently because of personnel. Stitt is working around those, and BG is checking to what he is comfortable with based on what he sees. People can complain about those 3 plays, but there were 2 turnovers and multiple big plays given up by the defense that could have made those mute.

Absolutely right. The only difference between the turnovers, big plays against the D, and those last three plays is that Stitt didn't call for a fumble, interception, or blown coverage. He did call those plays. (Or at least gave BG the option to check into them.)

So Tex, can you give me your approved list of plays that would be considered too risky, too conservative, and just right for those last 3 plays. We can call it the "Goldilocks" list. I will hang up and listen.

Sure. Too conservative: a dive up the middle that everyone knows is coming. Too risky: a stupid WR screen that, again, surprised no one and had very little chance of achieving what we needed out of that drive. Just right: any moderately disguised running play or a 2-3 step drop, quick slant that attacks the area of the field abandoned by their linebackers who crashed the line expecting a run. (you know, because the play was disguised.) Simple enough for you?

I don't see the WR screen as any more risky than a quick slant within what the Griz have for personnel. I did not like the dive play but if they had picked up 4 yards then we probably are not complaining about it.
