Glenn Gone at Wyoming

Top flight at that!

On that note, I want the next coach to be able to recruit Wyoming.. I can tell you that you'll hit lightning in a bottle sometimes.. Prosinski is a prime example of that. Marc Mariani type of lightning would star at Wyoming, just as he has at Montana.. never know when you'll find them. But I think Wyoming needs to recruit more athletes.. guys that can play anywhere (read: Jeff Larson).

Two interviews down or about to be

So far Major Applewhite: assistant Coach at Texas
Ted Gilmore on Tuesday assistant coach Nebraska

They want Dave Christian the OC from Missouri but he may be too expensive.

John L smith's name keeps coming up....

that is all I am hearing. A pretty good list frankly

Couldn't Applewhite get a job a lot better than Wyoming?

People really want Gene Huey to come home to Wyo. But that is really wishful thinking LOL

Perhaps just perhaps Wyo is a better job than most of the griz fans think. Now if only we could get another Paul Roach to come home and win a few championships again. Paul was also a retired NFL coach.

Huey is a long shot, I think, but I don't like his age. A little old.. I'd rather have some young punk like Major come in and give it a shot. Guy is so damn brilliant with the football. I remember watching him play.. the announcers and coaches always said he was a better coach on the field than he was a QB.. but a pretty good QB as well. I can't believe the support that Gilmore is getting considering he's never been more than a position coach.

Not sure how I feel about this.. great guy, great coach, great ambassador for the state of Wyoming, got people excited about Wyoming football after Dana Dimel and Vic Koenning ran the program literally to rock bottom.. but it appears he was let go after another bad season. Ted Gilmore from Nebraska will apparently interview.

Rivals.com Staff

Rivals.com has learned that Nebraska receivers coach Ted Gilmore will interview for the vacant Wyoming coaching job Tuesday with the school's president and athletic director.

Gilmore, 41, played receiver from 1988-89 at Wyoming after arriving from a junior college. Gilmore began his coaching career at Wyoming in 1994 as a graduate assistant, and was made a full-time assistant in 1997.

Gilmore also had stints coaching receivers at Kansas, Houston, Purdue and Colorado before joining Bill Callahan's Nebraska staff in 2005. Gilmore, who also coordinates recruiting for the Huskers, was retained by Bo Pelini in 2008.

Gilmore is a native of Wichita, Kan.

Wyoming is looking to replace Joe Glenn, who was fired after six seasons in Laramie

It is what it is... he couldn't produce. He got fired and I would respect Wyoming less for not doing so. He's still a great coach... his style didn't fit there (or maybe at that level).

I honestly had no idea that Wyo was relevant anywhere...not dissin, more just amazed that people actually care about the program. Ive never known them to good I guess except for when they beat UCLA in the las vegas bowl or whatever it is. I bet Laramie is a tough place to recruit too.....?

Yes, Swilly, it's not relevant, much like yourself. People care about the program probably more than this one. Get a clue.

You've been a little on the grumpy side lately.

Bob cole was never shown to be an O guru anywhere, it was a desperate hire by Glenn.

Wyo fans understand the challenges of Laramie and the conference UW has chosen to be in. Make no mistake UM would be in the same boat if you played in the MWC, perhaps even worse due to the lower budget and weaker facilities you would have compared to the rest of the conference. Montana enjoys playing in a very unbalanced league with several gimmee games a year which don't really exist in the MWC as much. Every team in the MWC except one has been to a bowl with a top 4 conference finish in the last ten years. Only SDSU is consistently a cellar dwellar.

I am realistic and want a competitive program, with players who play their butts off and that hit the jackpot occasionally. I believe that is very doable by many coaches out there and we did not have that with Glenn unfortunately.

Judging by the names that are being tossed in the ring there are quite a few very successful coaches who think Wyo is a solid place to take a gamble on.

LOL we agree on erickson

The upgraded facilities in Laramie are largely due to Joe Glenn's efforts (not your AD, not your UW President).

I don't disagree that Glenn has played a large role in fund raising and the facility improvement. That is probably hwy he has been offered a job with the University if he wants it. I have also seen the Pres lobby long hours in Cheyenne so yea he has played a large role as well.

That fact that Wyo has had a large state surplus for the last few years has been a real help as well. New luxury suits going into the stadium this year.

...if ol' joe don't land another coaching job...
...he could always take that old piano...
...and find a lounge act in vegas...
...the assistants are the ones...
...find a soft spot to land...

... :?: ...

Whoaaa there.....I said I wasn't dissin or anything I just had no clue that Wyo deserved 35 responses on eGriz. Im sure that has a lot to do with Joe Glenn but cmon. Immature? For not knowing about laramie wyoming and their laughing stock on a football program? I believe you need to get pop your northwestern bubble and realize that around the country people don't give one F about Wyo football, let alone Griz football. Just the way it is, argue all you want but im 100 percent correct. So don't throw stones when you live in a glass house of ignornance

Swill, you are right. Nobody cares about Wyoming or Griz Football around the country. I believe even those posting on this thread know that. But this board is not really aimed at fans in Atlanta or Philly. (You know, kinda like how the Missoulian probably doesn't sell many copies in Boston?).

Not "dissin", but this thread is much more interesting than your stupid Lakers thread. I really had no idea that anyone in Montana cared about the Lakers (mostly due to the fact that only a small percentage here in L.A. really care about the Lakers), but again, not "dissin". Even though you are in your "too cool for where I'm from" phase, you should try to give hillbillies like me a break for being interested in our formerly local teams.

At least you'll have to see my point of view. Because, after all, I'm in the same position with respect to your Lakers thread as you are with respect to this one.

agree with CDA.

Except for maybe 10 teams all of college football is regional and local interest in nature. I doubt most fans in Mont or Wyo can even name all of the NBA teams anymore.

IN the meantime ESPN says Two Wyo candidates were contacted even before Glenn was let go. Most ocnsider them to be the front runners for the job
