Glen Dean was going to sign with Portland State, not us, then changed his mind and went to EWU

Dean signed with us in 2007 with the condition that he attend a prep school first. Later on down the road, he asked for, and was granted, his release.

You can not sign a player to a letter of intent with the condicition that he attend a prep school. You can only sign a player for the upcoming school year, once that school year starts and the kid is not on campus he is a free agent so to speak. This is what I know about Dean's recruitment.

He was a senior in 2008 and was recruited by Portland State, Montana and Montana State and others out of high school. He was thought to be a very good prospect but there were two knocks against him one he was considered to be more of a shooting guard at 5-10 and that scared some people away. The bigger issue was some transcript / possibly grade issues. These issues forced UM and MSU to drop out of the in 2008. Portland State promised him a scholarship for the 2009 recruiting class. I was told two stories about PSU's offer. One was that they were full up on scholarships they wanted to offer to guards in 2008 and did not have room for him that year and the other was again some academic deficiency.

What ever the case Dean was linked to a handful of JC's and Prep schools in 2008-09 school year but he eventually landed at a local JC where he payed his own way and did not play basketball. If dean did have an academic problem it must have been real minor, because he was ruled eligible for this year by the NCAA clearing house.

PSU and Dean had some type of falling out, I have heard that PSU reneged on its offer, and a story that Dean did not like the new coach there but what ever he chose to look for another school. Montana State and Eastern were still interested in him, but Montana was not last year. I believe Seattle was also interested in him as well as a few others. Dean was scheduled to take an official visit to Montana State last spring, but at the last minute did not make his flight, nor inform the Bobcats that he would not be coming to Bozeman. When Dean did not show up at the Bozeman (with a coach waiting for him) it ticked Huse off enough he pulled his offer to Dean. I under stand there is more to this story than this but this is what I know.

I hear Dean had a few problems with Seattle, and that was ruled out. With Montana State. Montana, and Portland State also out of the picture there was not a lot scholarship options (although a few more walk-on offers). I think regardless Dean most likely would have ended up at EWU any way.

Again this is the scoop as best I know, I could be off hear and there but I have heard it from a few sources.

MSLACAT : Have you ever thought of working for CSI. I wish the Griz coaching staff was as aware of him as you and maybe the Griz would still have a realistic chance for second. Of course I'm uncertain of the value of second place any way
