Well, that was quite a documentary. I got to know Michael Ray reasonably well when he was at UM, sometimes I'd sit next to him during practices, and usually talked to him before or after games in the locker room. Not "in particular" but just as part of talking to Jud or other guys on the team. He was shy but very personable. He and Jud definitely were bonded; Jud expected a lot from his players and could be tough and demanding but at the same time in a fatherly sort of way which was just what MR needed and wanted most.
Didn't follow his career closely after he left, just some general impressions from the (usually bad) news items once in a while. The video brought me up to date on the fact that talent only goes so far; without a father, there was a handicap there he couldn't overcome by himself.
