GFP recording this evening - hit us with your hot takes

Hauck has made his dislike of night games known and his record reflects that. With 2 of the next 3 games at night and the season on the line, will he adjust his routines or stick with what hasn’t worked in the past?

What caused the vast majority of Griz Nation to have such high expectations for this season? Seriously - why?

Because he majority of Griz fans are astute and they saw that the Griz were better this year than last, had a very good qb, had its running backs back, and had a strong D with good depth. And, all holes seemed to have been filled or relatively filled.

I am still optimistic. Just as the first game or two didn't make a season, losing to Idaho doesn't make a season. The 3 tough games coming up give the Griz a chance to prove themselves, or not.

Completely get the defense...but, the rest seems like hope, maroon colored glasses, and group think.

I was not part of that group BTW. You know why...it's the elephant in the room.

James, you lead your FF opponent by one point, with only one game still being played. It’s the Niners, and they trail by two with :08 seconds left. Robbie Gould is lining up for a 49 yarder for the win. Only problem is, your FF opponent has Gould in his lineup. Are you rooting for him to make it or miss it?

Brint, is this the worst sport weekend ever for you (losses by GRIZ, Pack and Mariners)? Mike, same question for you if the Yanks lose today? *Note, I’m a Chiefs and Mariner fan, so hell yes it is.

Which is more stressful as a fan: Watching an important and very tight game at home or at the stadium?

Did Johnson’s game remind anyone of Sneed’s final in the quarters against Weebs?

There is way too much to unpack regarding the loss to Idaho. The addition of annalists to help in prep has not seemed to help much the past two games. Are there to many cooks in the kitchen with all the experience our coaches bring to the table? Are they not being listened to? Weaknesses should have been identified and changes made by now. Is this team capable of resetting and beating Sac State?

He reminded me of Kris Brown. Staring down receivers. Lack of pocket awareness. Trying to force passes.

My view is that you were not part of the group because you don't understand football very well.

Could be centered on the defense...

If the Griz cannot produce an elite offense to match the elite defense...some defenders might go shopping.

But is the defense elite really?

I think they are national championship level. The offense is really struggling right now. Can't be on the field for 40 + minutes.

Could care less what your view is stubby.

Idaho ran 72 plays in 42 minutes TOP
ISU ran 82 plays in 32 minutes TOP
Northwestern State ran 76 plays in 35 minutes TOP

It’s not the length of time the D is on the field. It’s the shortening of the game, fewer possessions, less scoring opportunities, can’t make up for mistakes made early because there’s no clock time, etc., etc. We had the fewest # of possessions in a game we’ve had all year. And it would have probably been one fewer if they don’t run that INT all the way down to the 2 yard line.

And despite all that, if Johnson doesn’t throw the 2nd pick and instead we go down and score, we win that game.

Maybe...but, the truth is he also dropped then recovered 2 snaps..

And, yes...if the offense is only going to be on the field for 20 minutes, they better score often. Sac State has TOP of 32 minutes...but, 4th in the nation total offense. Griz can afford very few mistakes to stay in this game.

Is Lucas Johnson an accurate enough passer to win tough games? Or does he need to use his running ability more?

His missed a wide open Roberts at the beginning of the game. He seemed to overthrow receivers that were slightly open downfield later in the game. His throw to Bergen was overthrown slightly but Junior made an amazing catch. If it takes that kind of throw and catch to complete a long pass maybe he should be running or throwing to shorter, open targets.

LJ was totally outplayed by McCoy, a R-FR, who made quick accurate throws to open receivers. On 3rd and six they would pick up six. LJ seemed to mostly try for big plays. Is that a coaching problem or a QB problem or is that a problem when LJ is having an off day?

The first snap wasn't a drop. Looked it good hung up with the back on a read play where Johnson decided to pull it out.

Johnson has been quite accurate until this last game. I agree with you that he wasn't this time. I'm guessing/hoping he will be fine.

Johnson has dropped to 30th in accuracy. 64.8%. The Idaho qb is 3d in the nation, with 73.7.

The Davis qb is 18th at 66.7.

Weber qb is 65.7.

SS qb is 64.8.

They are elite when getting pressure, but pedestrian when they don't. Pass coverage is a big weakness including the backers.
