GFP - if you could ask the athletic dept one question, what would it be?

Thought this was interesting. I'm waiting for a bill to come up in the legislature for my workplace, and was checking out the Senate agenda when I saw this was coming up for a vote on the floor today:

"SJ7 Joint resolution to support shooting competition as a collegiate sport" Fuller-Kalispell

The NCAA calls it Rifle. I don't think there's a hell of a lot of schools that offer Rifle, but this feels like a natural fit in Montana. Plus it's a relatively small team of only 10 athletes. If we needed to add a women's sport this could make sense from a numbers and funding perspective. I would've never thought of this as an option. They could use the shooting range out in Bonner for practice and this really wouldn't be that hard to fund. Just thought it was interesting that this popped up today after we were having this conversation on Friday lol.

It has quite the bipartisan support too. It passed out of the Senate Education Committee on a 14-0 vote.

Interesting idea there. Only thing I'd wonder about is if adding just 10 would be "enough" for the Title IX balance?

I'd previously heard that if the UM added a sport they'd look at gymnastics (20), or wrestling (30), or swim & dive (30).

Do the schools supply the rifle and ammo? I imagine competition caliber rifles are pretty pricey and ammo is certainly not as affordable as it use to be. This would be a very cool addition though. Calling them athletes though sounds weird to me😁.

I purchased memberships for myself and my son, since he’s in med school and doesn’t have the disposable income. It gives us some great father-son time centered around one of our favorite passions. I’m extremely thankful for the remote option, without it QB Club wouldn’t be an option as I live in PST and he in EST.
This is exactly what I do with my Dad. He looks forward to Mondays conversation every week. Haha
