GFP - if you could ask the athletic dept one question, what would it be?

Is that really true, though? I don't remember those conversations in specific, but my thought is that the guys that go on the pod often skew younger, and I know the Universities don't ask for donations from those of us who are more recent grads than people who are a bit more established in their careers.

I know that there are plenty of ex-griz that are local or semi-local and are in the QB club. I don't want to name names just because it is nobody's business, but there are a good number of local former players that are significant boosters. It may just be that the people going on the Pod haven't hit the age where the University is expecting them to give more, so they aren't chasing them. I don't know, that's just a theory on why you have heard people mention that. It may be more perception than reality.

Maybe so. But they need to keep them close as soon as they graduate in my opinion. I’m relatively young. In my 30s and I feel like I’m the youngest person in QB club. Haha

I’m sure it’s not true but it certainly feels that way.

Do neither of you go to meetings in person? I've gone to a few, and I always feel the same.

People are super nice and everything, and that is where I met Brint and Hoops, but yea, I'd always thought that a couple of people in their 40's were the bottom end of the age group other than me (just turned 38). My fiance and I have ended up mostly just doing it from home when we watch.

The lack of young people in the QB club actually has worried me and I've not really wanted to vocalize that here, but I've tried to invite other friends of mine and talk them into joining because I was a little worried that we weren't bringing in enough young folks. Maybe all the people my age just watch online, then?

And, Badlands, agreed that keeping close is important early on. Maybe I should hit the GSA stuff more often.

I don't live in Missoula so I zoom all the meetings. I did go to one in person meeting during the 23 season just because I wanted the full experience and to see what that was like, but it was kind of awkward for me because I didn't really know anybody and everyone was so much older then me that I felt totally out of place.

I understand your concern with the lack of young people in QB Club but it honestly makes sense why there aren't that many. Even at $1,000 it'd be really tough for just about anybody my age to make it work financially. I'm fortunate with my situation that I have a little disposable income to be able to do it and I kind of plan for it each year (I joined when I was 24). A buddy of mine really wants to join but between buying a house a few years ago, then paying for his dogs acl surgery, and then he and his wife paying for the entire wedding last summer (which wasn't cheap), there would be no way he would be able to do it right now. Maybe one day he will but not right now. Plus a lot of my other friends are still trying to pay off student loans and buying houses and/or expensive rent. It's a lot tougher for younger people who have a mountain of priorities to do it at this stage in their lives.

I totally get that. To be quite honest, there is 0.0% chance I could have joined when I was 24, so I totally get that. A lot of that is what I was getting at with suggesting the University just doesn't expect younger people to be very involved in fundraising. It is very understandable.

You do get a lot more questions answered in person. If you ever are in town and want to hit another one, shoot me a DM. I'll head down in person to do it with ya and we can all sit together. It will be like at Thanksgiving, where there is a kids and adults table, lol

Badlands - one thing I'd say is that your perception could be of just more local QB club members and those with time on Monday evenings to attend. Yeah the group is older but that's not even 1/3 of the total QB club and many that are remote or have family / work / etc events in the evenings zoom in instead. A lot of younger UM grads / fans are spread out across the region and opt for remote over in person.

I would venture the average age of all QB club members is pretty high though, no denying that.

Since you're here, thanks for letting me sit with you at my first meeting, before I knew you or anyone in the room. Didn't even have an egriz account back then. You made it a lot less awkward that day, and I have always really appreciated that.
 
I'm around @ElrodGrizzly age and have been interested in joining, but other priorities have been taking up the disposable income (two kids under 5, mortgage, bills, medical bills from said kiddos)....hopefully in the next 5/10 years I can swing it.

I think some of it is a fine line to walk by the Alumni Association as well...yes, you want to be in touch with the new/recent grads ASAP, but it is....not a great look hitting up grads for money shortly after graduating.

The University has done a nice job of staying in contact with me over the years.

Honestly - I don't think I started getting asked for money until I started giving money...

Maybe others have had different experiences.

If we were to eliminate all in stadium commercial aspects of Griz football and instead invested significantly both financially and intellectually into making Griz game days a truly awesome and unforgettable experience for students, alumni, prospective students, and Griz fans statewide….
  1. Would we ever have enrollment issues?
  2. Would we ever have Athletic Department funding issues? NIL deficiencies?
  3. Could we easily be selling 35k tickets for every game?
Do we have the creative minds internally to do this?

And thank you for the congratulations! It is new, we got engaged at the end of the year and then went on a little trip together for a while to enjoy it. I'm a very, very lucky man.
 
It's very common for golf clubs to have junior memberships (usually for those under 40) with the monthly dues somewhere around 50-75% of the standard senior membership. QBC could probably catch some younger folks earlier if they let them join for $500 until they get to 40 years old.

That’s super cool man! I’m always happy for people who find happiness. Finding that someone you realize you wanna spend the rest of your life with is an awesome feeling. If we make it up there this summer, we’ll have to go on a double date😁.
