Thanks GT - good explanationIt adds up quickly... with the average price of a helmet around $600 and many going for a lot more than that, you can see where the cost gets to 3K quickly. Game quality jersey, primary and secondary pads, mouth piece, undergarments, cleats, gloves and not to mention the cost of custom decoration with team colors and marks.... and this is with special consideration from Nike for some of the stuff...
It’s the undergarments that really drive up the cost. IDK about you, but when my undergarments aren’t just so, I send them back. Take two, pard. Fail again, and you get to live in a shack outside of Peoria. Thats how important the undergarments are. Thanks GT - good explanation
Yeah - we - just like every AD and school President will just continue to accept that it costs 3000 to outfit a player.Price of helmets reflects multiple parts and ongoing research and design for safety. Maybe it's just me but I'd prefer the more expensive option that reflects ongoing care for you head/brain.
Well unless that helmet is made of solid fucking gold it should not cost anywhere near tha
Dumb and dumber! .Yeah - we - just like every AD and school President will just continue to accept that it costs 3000 to outfit a player.
We'll keep sending our money to Nike through the athletic department...we are friggin sheep.
Under zero circumstances should it cost that much for some simple gear and a jersey. Zero.
I should fund a start up and undercut the big boys...create a little competition the space.
See, this is the beauty of a (mostly) free-market economy. If there is money to be made; if there is a way to reduce production costs and sell for less, it would happen. Feel free to explore, SG, but I don't expect you'll find it particularly lucrative.Yeah - we - just like every AD and school President will just continue to accept that it costs 3000 to outfit a player.

Bobby told me if we bought 80 of our old Gold and Copper helmets in would cost about $70,000Well unless that helmet is made of solid fucking gold it should not cost anywhere near that.

Totally agree. I have a 10U softball player. The dugout has over 5k in bats alone, and that could be low-balling it. (no puns).Cleats

My 12 year old daughter plays lacrosse and is a goal keeper and her gear in total is over $1000
Careful using that word associated with anything egriz, Leaf might get confused and break into some users or moderators homes looking for some of that oxymoron.I’m guessing they followed eGriz wisdom(oxymoron?) and stayed the hell away from Ryan Leaf, weather it be in discussion or otherwise.

I’m not arguing the cost. I’m saying it SHOULDN’T cost that much. I’m as big a capitalist as the next guy, but within reason. The prices are ridiculous and these companies have to be making a killing (to Soldier’s point)…Cleats

Although there's a huge part of me who would loooove to see Riley toeing the rubber from sixty feet six, staring down a double gloved Kent, who is digging deep into the box with steely eyes and grandeurs of 448 foot bombs.
Also, Brint? Thanks so much for this pod. We appreciate you doing it, and Kent was spectacular: open, no bullshit, funny as hell.
