Yesterday we had the opportunity to sit down in Kent Haslam's office and chat on a lot of topics that are fresh on fans minds. Kent was incredibly forthright and informative, sharing more information than I expected. In a very short 1:17 GFP we covered a lot of topics. We talked about fan gameday experiences, costs of jerseys, prioritizing stadium / sports expansions. Kent shared with us his perspective of where the UM will be on the upcoming House Settlement, we talk NIL, and budgeting for sports. Near the close of the pod we talk about how the athletic department schedules and the differences between scheduling football, basketball, and other sports as well.

Some fun and interesting stuff

- Kent, who used to play baseball, thinks he could get a bat on a ball if it were a softball pitch, but admits that's coming at you from a different angle so that would be tough. Is pretty convinced though if he saw a pitch from Riley Corcoran he could take it yard.

- Some great Luke quotes, "So is Sac State just full of shit?"

- Sounds like Montana won't opt-in to the new House Settlement in the 2025 season but based on what Kent said 2026 is the goal. If so it could envelope the nil because then athletics is revenue sharing.

- Each home game clears around $800,000 for the team. I asked directly why aren't we playing New Mexico, Nevada, Wyoming - and that's partly why, those games are would be $200,000 to $300,000 losses compared to a home game. Also the home and home agreements are great, but there's no payout for the trip, so they can't just stack the OOC with all home and homes.

- The cost for 1 football players jersey / pads / etc for a single color theme is about $3000

- Talked on how he doesn't think Wa Griz needs more seats, but needs to expand on the west side to add more suites and revamp press/coaches areas.

- It was interesting he pointed out that if you look around the CFB landscape for decades programs had crazy expensive facilities - because that's where donors could put their $$. With the NIL now where do you prioritize, do you still sink major donor $$ into facilities, or do you shift that to NIL or revenue share to get to the players?

But did you talk Ryan Leaf?

I don’t understand why he seems to think that if they serve beer in the stadium seats they would have to close the gate at halftime. Why not do both?

He suggested it but also said that having access to more bathrooms than just those in stadium is probably important + some fans come for the tailgating more than being in the stadium for the full game. Generally to me he seemed non committal on closing the stadium down for no return access and he did say full scale beer sales aren’t probably going to happen anytime soon

I'm sorry, but that's fucking ridiculous.
It adds up quickly... with the average price of a helmet around $600 and many going for a lot more than that, you can see where the cost gets to 3K quickly. Game quality jersey, primary and secondary pads, mouth piece, undergarments, cleats, gloves and not to mention the cost of custom decoration with team colors and marks.... and this is with special consideration from Nike for some of the stuff...

Well unless that helmet is made of solid fucking gold it should not cost anywhere near that.
