GFP 2025 “Autopsy Pod” recording tonight

Brint, Bobcat fan here and I would like to distance myself from those fellow fans who think you guys aren’t complimentary of the Cats. Why would you be? You are Griz fans, and you don’t have to worship us. The thought of me worshiping the Griz makes me want to puke in the same way worshiping the Cats would you. I didn’t see the Cats beat the Griz until I was 16 years old. You guys have our respect and associated resentment, which you can detect by the many many chants during every game no matter the opponent.

Long story short, you guys do an excellent job and you guys are very realistic about where things stand right now. I have no doubt the Griz will work their way out of this one way or the other. I never thought I’d be alive by the time the Cats won a championship. It is awesome, but don’t get too down on yourselves. Thanks for the great pod, guys. You do great work.

Dissecting the entirety of the athletic department, what is your recommendations to Haslam and Co.? Montana is being dominated across the entirety to Bozeman in the money sports, Football, MBB and WBB. Even facilities .. the Griz raise enough for a bubble while MSU raises 2.5X for a permanent structure. UM still has not raised (that I know of) enough money to build a WBB locker room. Lose Coach Cito (at least partially) because the school isn't able to invest in soccer infrastructure. How do you turn the tide in overall giving when the results are lacking?
Rumblings are MT can’t afford a new soccer coach top 3 candidates interviewed on campus last week and supposedly all 3 turned the job down due to lack of money/facility investment. Someone also said the soccer locker room needs to be condemned is this all true.

MBB? Just no. Lol. Wrong

Where does this negativity towards Travis and the MBB program come from? Because we lost in football we’ve got to dump on basketball? Here’s some numbers and some context.

Travis is 17-6 vs the Cats and is 7-4 in Bozeman. Travis is the winningest coach in big Sky MBB history. With direct contrast to Bobby, it’s clear Travis has diagnosed the problems with this years team and is working to fix them. If you watch his presser, he calls out the turnovers and the mental lapses. Travis teams always improve as the year goes on. Have we already forgotten the double crown he won not even a year ago?

Is Haslam capable of elevating athletics? All I see is a guy worried about job security and playing it safe every chance he gets. He pretty much let the public hire a wbb coach and we’re seeing how that’s going rn. Did Stitt scare him from ever having an opinion of his own?
From the posts I have read the consensus is no, hired an inexperienced WBB coach, let winningest soccer coach goto WSU, without a plan to hire a new coach. The soccer stadium is one of the best just need locker room update as players shares bathrooms with fans and lights.

Rumblings if true can’t afford to hire a new soccer coach 3 candidates turned down the job due to lack funding.

Fair enough but look what Sprinkle did in his short time. Travis is a good coach and has stayed at UM for a lot longer than I thought he would. No, I have not forgot about last year and using dominated about MBB may have not been appropriate,

I do agree with what you’re getting at though, there’s some change that needs to happen within the athletic department. The reason there’s any pressure on Travis at all is b/c he’s been the only program consistently dominating the Cats. So on the occasion he loses, it really becomes more apparent the problem in the greater athletic department.

Sprinkle was good but Travis’s best BSky teams (18,19, 25) were metrically as good or better. Neither won in March, Travis came closer. We’ve been blessed to have Travis stay. Our current roster (only 2 seniors) is more talented than a Cat roster dominated by Seniors and Graduate students, but is just having some very apparent turnover woes. We start 2 freshman. They will be very, very good again, and soon, if Travis can keep the core together.

The Griz are once again in Portal rebuild mode. The Cats are in retain and develop mode.

What factors do you see leading to this situation? Which would you rather have? Does it even matter?

Part of the problem is they have 9 seniors compared to our 29 seniors. If they had a large senior class like us then they would be having to use the portal a little bit too. I don't like it and wish we didn't have to go raid the portal, but at least the staff isn't bringing in a bunch of one and done guys like they have the last two years.

MSU had 20+ seniors and over 10 players that transferred out last year. They brought in 6 transfers.

Cope. The cats had around 20 seniors last year and only took in 6 transfers total, while taking the Natty.

So no, successful teams do not need to rely on the portal predominantly.

With direct contrast to this philosophy, 53% of Miami’s starts and 64% of Indianas starts this season were by transfers. Indiana has already signed 17 portal recruits for next season. What’s my point? The philosophy in roster building matters little. Finding the right guys, and fitting/developing them into a winning scheme is what actually moves the needle.
