Gfeller named Preseason All-Big Sky

When was the last time a Lady Griz player been selected as a pre-season all-big sky player?

Been awhile. I think Kayleigh Valley was the last one and she was pre-season MVP then. But she couldn't play that year due to Knee injury.

So, here is looking for an outstanding season for Carmen Gfeller. But then the way Fatkin played in the scrimmage, maybe they voted wrong.

Cool: The Big Sky recognition is hard-earned by Gfeller, who was physically hammered with double teams as the seson progressed last year. Fans last night got just a hint of how Holsinger plans to use Carmen, who dribbles the ball well. Late in the game, after she got a feed on the right baseline, her teammates cleared out of the key entirely, leaving Carmen isolated with one defender. The result: two easy point blank pivot buckets. The men ran a similar version of the clear-out for Bannan. It'll be interesting to see how opposing coaches respond: stay at one-on-one, risk the double up and leave a Griz player open, or switch to zone.

McKenzie Johnston was the last LG to be named to the preseason all-conference team prior to the 2019-2020 season.

Last I heard, she had signed a professional contract to play in Europe somewhere.

But you do have a good point.

Before Johnston, you have to go back to the start of the 2015 season to find another LG (both Kayleigh Valley and McCalle Feller made the preseason list that year, and the last time Montana was preseason favorites, I think).

Technically, Valley made the initial preseason team as the MVP the next season but then the BSC removed her after her injury.
