Garrett Graves Moves to Defense

I think Hauck and Co..have been trying to see where he fits..obviously he a great athlete and will
hopefully find his place..if he could muscle up and put on 20lbs he's LB material..

It's all time developing and learning that he missed out time. The on-field time may or may not have increased, but the practice time would have, and that's pretty important time lost.
But he still would have been "riding the pine" which is the point made above.

But he’d be better prepared to contribute THIS season, which was the point made above.

Maybe, maybe not. Sounds like he will get plenty of time to prepare between now and the opener.

I’m sorry, but that point was NOT made above. Comment disallowed.

Safety - LB? Seems a lot of speculation.

Yes. Entire thread should be removed for lack of facts.

Coach Hauck confirmed that Graves has moved to Defense(finally) A move we all saw coming although he did get some time at WR last year.

So where is his best fit? Safety or LB? From a depth/need standpoint I'd love to see him at LB. He will be a playmaker.
At 6'3" 202 lb, he looks more like a safety. He has the speed and savvy.

I totally agree with you, kem... Graves natural FCS position is SAFETY (good: size, speed, athleticism, attitude and hand-eye coordination). Gonna be an all-conf safety--Hauck knows what he'd doing.

I called his dad after seeing the article on Montana Sports. Dad says he's very excited to be on defense. Just wants to play somewhere, doesn't care where. I also agree with kem, Safety is a very natural fit for Graves. He did a nice job in his few reps at receiver as well, but I want to see a few more of those bone crushing blows he's capable of dealing. As a big fan of Class B football in Montana, I'd love to see them slap a 37 on his back. I think he is a Griz star in the making!

With McGinnis departing, he should slide right in there... :thumb:

O.K Coaches, don't screw this kid up with a bunch of reads ,keys, Formation. newly learned terminology from your recent coaching clinic. He is a Natural. He has a nose for the ball, goes directly to it and shows up angry. ( hmnn, picked up that quote at a recent coaching Clinic) , Go Griz
