What I watched today was a lot of early frustration with the line continuing to play sieve protection and the tackling just wasn't wrapping up that first quarter. Eventually, the tackling corrected itself (while the starters were in) and the lead ballooned before halftime, so Indiana State was what I expected them to be. Also, the protection seemed to be there, and when you have 300 plus yards rushing and passing, that's pretty good. I can't help but feel that much of what we are seeing is the opposing defense committing to stopping our running game and we need to establish the pass to back them off because with no sacks, it seemed the pass protection was pretty good all day. Eli had just 13 carries and two big runs, but still 120 yards. No excuse for the line letting defenders in resulting in negative carries for him, but he's so good that he will get loose.
We need more improvement for sure before udaho, but ALMOST winning over San Jose State is fully losing. It is also not the same as ALMOST winning but fully losing to K-State, so we've been there before, right. I am not that impressed that they lost by 3 to 2-1 Wazzu or 1-2 San Jose who have one FBS win between them. These are teams that would not do well against most of the 10 ten in the FCS, but they both got past the Vandals.
Enjoy Sunday football and then it's time to get back to work.
