Game Thread UM vs. NAU 2:00PM

Although the griz got the win, there's still way too many questionable aspects of the squad to instill much confidence in this fan. An ugly win is still a win.

But I'll repeat a point I made in another thread. We are beating teams this year that dominated us last year (NDSU and NAU), and nearly beat another team that dominated us last year (Poly). So if you're looking at things from a head-to-head perspective, we're actually already showing marked improvement.

The only consistency, for the most part, is defense. Offensively, its like watching someone with cerebral palsy walking on wet ice. You hope for the best, but.....no more predictions from me.

JN owned that drive! Nearly 10 yards a carry.

My kudos go to the oline

Yes. Kudos to both the line and John. JN broke lots of ankles and and arm tackles.
Yeah, I have to say that today is the first I have ever seen Nguyen run somebody over lol

Played the last four minutes like a man possessed. Just needs some blocking

NAU had beaten the Griz twice the past seasons, so it is good to get that monkey of our backs.

I'll admit to getting impatient with the offense in that second half, but that last drive by Ngyuen and the O-Line was the best offensive series since the opener.

We do have a lot of room for improvement though, especially since it appears the Cats will be contending for the BSC crown this year. But we got the win and hopefully Chalich is getting more in-tune with the offense in his first full start.

Meanwhile Liberty is getting stomped by S. Illinois 20-3 near halftime.

I think in a fairly complex offense that requires the QB to make quick, accurate reads, it is huge to lose the guy that's been getting all the reps throughout the spring, summer, and fall. So I think we'll see weekly improvement with Chalich, and I do think the Liberty game would have turned out better if we had our #1 QB in there (and that includes Chalich, if he'd been the #1 guy getting all the reps before)

Interesting game to attend. I thought our secondary played very well, and that markell and and mckinley defended admirably in the place of harris. that first td seemed like an obvious push-off on NAU, but the stadium replay didn't have a good angle on it. can anyone who watched comment? Anywho, Butler for NAU was very good. His size was hard to handle. It seemed the D was definitely starting to get gassed in the 4th, but when needed, the O responded. Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe I counted at least 3 different players attempting to be center today. At times watching the qb-center exchange was painful. Griz definitely have room for improvement, but it's great to be back on the left side of the column. Onward and upward!

So Nguyen has 70 yards on 7 carries...why aren't they running more?

41 carries is not enough?
It's enough...should have checked the total carries first lol

Thought the running game was improved, overall. Running back by committee was working ok. Thought Counts, Favors, Logwood and Nguyen all ran well. Chalich was good as well. Logwood and Favors are going to be great.

Looked to me like Sanders got turned around and didn't see the ball. He stopped, receiver made a play and was gone. Markell got burned.

So the PI on the Griz was the correct call? Thanks for your input.

EDIT: I thought Nelson was covering on both touchdowns? Definitely the 2nd, but I've been know to be wrong :)

Geez. Now you got me second guessing myself. I thought it numero uno.
