Game thread 1/18

I'm afraid I've lost confidence in Tinkle and staff---- no answers for the predictable. Teams are stopping Andrew in the low block. There are no adjustments--- how about a 5 man game--- how about a high post--- or a double high post. How about taking Andrew out. Many times in the last 2 years Crisswell would come out. It seemed the reason was to lull and confuse the defense. I see no creative coaching.......

Actually, there was very little "freelancing". Beastie-were you at the game? The Griz did not have an effective answer for the zone other than to swing the ball from side to side and inside and out a few times, looking for an open shooter. Once the shots stopped dropping, we were in trouble. However, they did, for the most part show patience in trying to find an open man. The trouble was, in large part, ineffectiveness in trying to score from inside the 3 point line and that ISU had no such problem. Also, I don't think the personal shots at Wayne contribute to the discussion. :naughty:

37 3-pt shots?

ISU's zone that good? We heaved up 28 the other night in a loss and I about kicked my dog when I got home. :-\

I don't think we can afford to play Ellis much against the zone. Nobody guards him out there and he just doesn't move the ball around fast enough. If I see him drive through the lane one more time, with NO intention to ever put up a shot, I think I'm going to cry.

Martin comes out red hot, then gets put on the pine? Hasquet comes out hot, then doesn't hardly see the ball for the next 15 minutes? Teams have a much tougher time shutting Jordan down than they do with Strait - I think they need to build some offense around Jordan. At the very least, the ball should go through his hands every time down - it's not like he forces a lot of shots, and he's a great passer.

Watching the game tonight was torture. The crucial stretch midway through the 2nd half when we came down and fired up 4 straight one-pass threes (including 1 by Strait) was insane. Krysko would have thrown his clipboard into the Sky Box if these guys would have pulled that crap.

What the heck happened to Strait?? At the NCAA's he owned a supposed Lottery-pick in Fazekas and had to go against some tough cookies like Craig Smith on Boston College, who by the way is getting some serious PT for the T-Wolves lately. I thought he'd be an animal this year in the Big Sky. I know MSU and ISU were double and triple-teaming him, but he seems to have lost confidence. He made some nice kick-out passes to Dlouhy and had 6 assists, but he didn't even TRY any moves to the basket until late in the game. He can't even make Free-throws either. Not sure what the answer is to that, but we need Strait's 15-20 points per game, or we're in a world of trouble.

Also WHY the heck was Dlouhy on the bench for the last 3 minutes? He was so in-the-zone it was sick. Even my girfriend, who has only recently started watching Griz hoops, asked this right after the game. That was inexplicable.

Martin starts out en fuego 4-4, 10 points in the first 4 minutes, then goes 0-7 the rest of the way. When he's hot, let him keep shooting, when he's cold, he needs to be pulled. All he provides is scoring, and if he's not scoring, get him out!

Idaho State was impressive. They got zero depth, but their top 5 are a force to be reckoned with.

Nice to see someone agreeing with me about Hasquet. I 100% agree that Hasquet needs to touch the ball every trip down court. We need to keep him on the court. Good things happen when Jordan has the ball. IMHO, Hasquet is our best player, all do respect to Andrew. Speaking of which, Andrew has to start hitting FT's, that alone gives teams more reason to pack it in on him.

Zirg, I agree with you regarding Strait. As for Dloughy on the pine at the end, not sure but it looked to me he collided knees just before being pulled. He went to the bench holding and rubbing his knee area alot.

Good observation regarding Martin's offense. When he is on keep getting him the ball. However, I encourage anyone to watch the replay on Altitude. Martin got his hands on many balls in the passing lanes and was busting ass on Defense tonight. IMO Martin played with much more passion tonight on both ends. Just would like to see him penetrate more. Ditto for every other wing player.
