I heard that as well and Harding Way is emergency vehicles only right now. My son is coming from Billings friday and for all traveling from the east just take HW 69 near Cardwell and head up to Boulder and then take I-15 south to Butte. It will add 45 min to an hour to your trip but thats the fastest way if they close I-90.

You're ok, the fire is between Butte and Whitehall.

Thanks man! I have been stuck on I90 twice around Snoqualmie, I just assumed it was on the Missoula side.

People coming from the east on I-90, there is a large fire on the bozeman hill. Do not know if they will close the highway or not. Just info to be aware of.

They'll slurry the crap out of I-90 and it will be open Labor Day weekend even if there's fire 500 yards from the road.

I thought that you meant Mile Marker 19, as in 19 miles from the Montana border.

19 Mile Fire near Whitehall grows to 3,000+ acres:
http://www.krtv.com/news/19-mile-fire-near-whitehall-grows-to-3-000-acres/
The 19 Mile fire burning southeast of Butte near Whitehall has grown to more than 3,000 acres and is moving north toward Interstate 90.

The fire is burning in the Radar Creek and Toll Mountain area north of Highway 2.

Leona Roderick with the Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forest Service say the fire is currently burning one mile south of I-90.

The 19 Mile Fire was first reported around 3:50 p.m. on Tuesday; the cause of the fire has not yet been determined.

Structures are threatened and the Jefferson County Sheriff has conducted evacuations in the Upper Rader Creek and Toll Mountain area.

Residents are asked to check in at the Whitehall Ambulance Barn and if they need other assistance to go to the Catholic Church in Whitehall.

Small animals may be taken to the Whitehall Ambulance Barn, however they will need to be in cages. Large animals may be taken to the Rodeo Grounds in Whitehall.

You talking about the Millie Fire? That is more in the hyalite area. I'm pretty sure I-90 will be safe though it has grown to 10,000+ acres pretty quick. The only other fire of note I am seeing anywhere near Bozeman is the Pine Creek fire. Now that one has been devastating from the get go, but still won't impact I-90.

Just drove to Whitehall today from Missoula, then down to Sheridan... Damn smoky drive, we were convinced we were going to get stopped somewhere between Twin Bridges and Whitehall due to road closure.

I was told by the in-laws, there was a fire on the bozeman hill and it was moving closer to I-90. Maybe they were mistaken. The pine creek fire has moved east and is now on top of Livingston peak. Very bad fire!

From the Bozeman area to Missoula turn at Three Forks and go to Helena, It is really only about 15 miles further then going through Butte.

The 19 mile fire is about a mile away from 1-90-if it does jump the interstate and hit Homestake Pass, then Butte's East Ridge, as well as probably all the way up to Helena will be toast because of all the dead trees.
It is 0% contained as of this morning, and burning more than 3000 acres. There is wind that's not helping the situation as well.

I've been told that people are meeting this morning to discuss how to stop the fire from jumping the interstate.
