Future OOC Football Schedules

When is Dixie State joining the conference?

Dixie State is currently D2 but is moving up in the 2020 season, jumping over FCS and going straight to D1 FBS in the WAC. They will be a very nice win for us vs FBS "competition."

Dixie is going FCS independent. They are joining the WAC for everything else.

If the Wac becomes a football conference again, it'll be an FCS conference

Side note - not a fan at all of next year's home game with DII Central Washington. We only have an 11-game schedule next year. I would like to see that game replaced with an FCS home game instead.

I agree! We should not be playing any DII
games. If they want a patsy there is plenty of those teams in the FCS.

If the Griz end up 7-4 next year substituting a bad DI team vs. central WA won't make a difference, regardless of the guidelines. See 2017 for proof. Beating Valpro and Savannah added nothing that CWU wouldn't have, and cost more.

[cost more] do you mean $. Please elaborate on Valpro and Savannah.

D2 wins don’t count toward playoff consideration. D1 wins do count for playoff consideration. Weak D1 wins may affect seeding or cause teams on the bubble not to get in but at least they have a chance versus a D2 win.

The last time we played Central Washington, in 2008, we advanced to the National Championship game. Also worth noting we opened the 2009 season against a D2 team so it isnt necessarily a bad thing.

I also wouldnt be surprised if we add another game before next year.

We played Central Washington in 2014 too. And we can't add another game next year. It's an 11-game season and we have 11 games already on the schedule.
If it's an 11 game season, why was this year's schedule 12 games?

Who else thinks they end up in the Big Sky for football only

Never mind. I looked it up and didnt realize what the rule was. I thought there was a new rule change this season, but teams can only schedule 12 games when there is 14 Saturdays between Labor day and the last weekend of November. Pretty weird rule if you ask me. The next time we can play 12 games isn't until 2024.

My apologies.

Well if the Big Sky already has 13, why not 14, 15, 16?

Hell it doesn't really matter anymore until they somehow pare it back to an 8 or 9 team conference.

Just thought I would post this again.

Haslam wouldn't do that on his own. That would be a huge stain on his resume. If Bodnar is hamstringing Haslam to a significant degree, then Haslam would be in the job market actively looking for a happy landing BEFORE such a stupid move. Alumni and donors would NOT be happy, with a DII move, donations would dry up, alum would NOT come to games, and Bodnar would not last six months. Remember all the pitchforks and torches when Pat Williams was nominated for the Board of Regents? If one really wants to know why all the cupcake games, ask Kent Haslam. Simple as that. There are posters on this board who claim to be friends with Haslam and others. Pick up the phone or go see Haslam in person. End any needless speculation at the same times as 'adding something worthwhile to the discussion on this board.' Problem solved.
I sent him an email, see what happens.

My email and his response. Forgot Dixie State will be D1 when we play them. I liked his response:

Me:

"Hi Kent - Got some people in a huff of why some D2 games in coming years. Got a short answer as to why? Don’t want to take up too much of your time. Thank you and GO GRIZ!"

Kent:

"Some?

We have one. Central Washington and couldn’t find anyone else which occasionally will happen because of our need to always have six home games. Scheduling philosophy and priority remains the same in this order.

1 - Six home games
2- All Division 1 opponents
3- Home and home"

I absolutely hate next years schedule. I’d rather have a loss to Oregon and a nice fat payday rather than a win over a D2. On the whole, next years schedule is just hot garbage.

Yeah, but it's going to culminate with a nice trip to Frisco, so....

I pray they will replace the Central game... I can see the rankings now after week 1...

Griz beat CWU

Fargo Heated Hillbillies lose at Oregon

1) Hillbillies

Everyone else...

Pretty simple. D1 teams get a better paycheck for a road game to e.g., Wash/Griz than a D2. Just as FBS teams get a better paycheck to the e.g., Oregon than an FCS.

Griz definitely do not want to play BYU for a variety of reasons including their obvious, intuitive mission maturity advantage.

8-)

Their pompous, arrogant fanbase is more than enough reason not to deal with them.

Not our fault you couldn't defend the dairy farm this season!

Because living in a third world country for two years away from football helps build such a great athletic physique that translates into a district advantage.
