It was a quick look, but I think every single one of our Griz recruits (minus Curry) made the Shrine team main roster. Saw Curry made the super state team though. Great representation of our Griz.

Congrats to all selections! A great honor to play in this game. I thought the selection committee did great on both rosters. Should be a good battle.

I didn't see Levi Janacaro on the list. How can a kid (Curry) make GF Tribune Super State team and not make the east squad????

Because Layne Swigart and Treyton Pickering are better TE's. One of those things where Curry will likely be a better prospect college player once he gets developed.

Also, kids make the SuperState team every year that get slightly overvalued because they are a Great Falls area kid.

Vim you are out of your mind. Maybe you haven't looked at Curry's YouTube video closely, but it says he made the USA Football U18 International games in Texas this January. I checked out USA football......over 10,000 kids tryout for the national teams to earn a chance to play at AT&T Stadium vs international teams. The past rosters are filled with the best of the best. But you claim he isn't as good of tight end? I live in central Montana and watch a lot of games and go to tons of track meets. Curry is the much better overall athlete and in the game when it was Pickering vs Curry head to head, Curry had the better second half and ultimately won the game for Valier. If Curry had not tried to go for a pick on two passes and play it safe in the first half, sunburst misses out on two scores. I have never seen Swigart play so I have no comment other than his highlight tape is not near what Curry's is. Pickering is a miss for both Montana schools. He is not fast enough to be a tight end in the BSC, but he would have made one hell of an offensive lineman. That is where I feel he and Curry are similar. Throw them both in the weight room and you get a big fast tight end with one, and a big, quick, and sure footed guard or tackle with the other.
Pickering gets the nod for better basketball player. Curry is a dunking machine and inside player. Pickering has the outside shot and great ball skills.
Sometime you should come to northern Montana and watch some class B and C ball. It might give you a better perspective of some of the kids you love to evaluate.

Janacaro made the team, and there is always a possibility Curry declined to play in the shrine game which is what we saw last year with the Deming brothers and some others. That may be why he isn't on the roster

While that is true for players each year, Swigart and Pickering were chosen over Curry. Curry is the alternate.

I am from Northcentral Montana. I know B and C basketball and football very well. One of the best basketball tournaments in the state each year is the Northern B Divisional.

We just simply disagree on Curry vs. Pickering.

Layne was one of the better football players in Class A this year. Sorry you didn't like his highlight tape because the kid is a superb blocker for one of the best running teams in the state. Barely any receptions because Sidney rarely passed the ball.

Thanks for the info. I missed his being an alternate. Do alternates only go once a starter has decided to pass on the invite?

Correct.

Has a Class A, B or C kid ever been a Gatoraide Player of the Year?

The most recent Class A winner was Casey McMillan, an offensive lineman from Billings Central in 2008.

The most recent Class C winner was Alex Verlanic, an offensive lineman from Drummond in 2006.

From my experience playing in the Shrine game you can not decline before even being picked. Also have to say it was definitely an honor playing and helping the Shrine kids!

There is a little more behind the scenes action for the rosters, at least there was in the 90s. Sometimes you look at the rosters with a big fat ? That being said, it’s an honor that many of these kids will cherish the rest of their lives. Some will choose to not play, which is fine, and others it’s their last taste of football.

I don't think we disagree on Pickering VS Curry as much as you would like to think. They are both fine players in my opinion. If I am making the pick for the roster, which I am not, it is the two 6-man kids in the TE spot on the east roster. TE is about much more than making good blocks. Pickering and Curry both proved to be solid blockers and have the ability to make great catches. Either way it really doesn't matter because I am not here to argue with you.
I am more disappointed in your slight towards Curry regarding the Super State selection. You and I both know he was very deserving of the spot. I don't think he was "handed" the spot because he was a GF area kid as you suggest. My guess is that apparently I'm not the only one who disagrees with you regarding Curry. Super State (committee) selected him, he earned a scholarship, and he earned a roster spot in the USA Football International Bowl. I don't think this all happened for no apparent reason.
Let's agree to disagree on Curry. I (and many others) think he is solid as hell, you on the other hand don't. Time will tell who is right. At the end of the day the whole darn thing regarding ranking kids and judging their potential is a crap shoot. NFL scouts can't even get the draft picks right, so what makes any of us on here think we know who the next Dave Dickenson or Kirk Scrafford will be.
I appreciate the work you put into your list every year, it gives me some kids to watch when I go to games. Have a good one.
