Frost Out At Nebraska

Well, you have to say the Nebraska admin gave Scott Frost every chance ... and he just couldn't cut it. They say they'll go with "Associate Head Coach" Mickey Joseph for the rest of the year. He's a Nebraska grad (play QB 1988-91) and had a bunch (like a dozen) short-term coaching gigs before landing back at Nebraska.

If he doesn't make at least some turn-around soon, I'm guessing Nebraska will be looking to grab a new coach sooner than that. Of course, Craig Bohl has been mentioned, and I've also heard of some FCS possibilities.

I can’t believe they kept him at the end of last season. Even worse that he couldn’t at least make it to his decreased buyout on Oct 1. Georgia Southern is a bad loss. Especially when you look at what their defense gave up.

Bohl makes sense with his history. How many years does he have left. Does he have the gas in the tank for that rebuild. I doubt they go FCS. Urban meyer mentioned he would be interested. That’s like bringing in a snake oil salesman to Lincoln. Might get a quick turnaround followed by a rapid downfall. He doesn’t fit the fan base. Will be interesting to see.

My feelings too.

The fan base went absolutely ballistic after this loss, so something had to be done NOW. And what's money to Nebraska, which sells out at home even when they have a bad team?
 
Great, maybe they’ll stop poaching our players now. On the bright side, there should be a mass exodus of guys into the portal, so maybe we can snatch a few of them at the end of the year.
 
Stinks. College football is better when Nebraska has a good team IMO.

Also, Frost probably looking to stay busy...Griz have room for an "analyst?"

I think Nebraska might share this opinion. Could’ve had something to do with the decision.

Nebraska hired Frost because of his flashy success at the University of Central Florida.

But the reality is that Frost only had two full years as a head coach. He took over at UCF after 8 (losing) games in 2015 ... and the team finished the year 0-12. But he proved that he could inspire players to play well: With essentially the same people (this before the Transfer Portal went crazy), he got them to a bowl game. Then they had an undefeated season, including a bowl game. (Recall that that was the year they invented their own "National Championship," since they were spurned by the FBS "playoff" system.) Bottom line: There was little to no evidence as to whether or not he could actually recruit and develop players. For all we know, he might have continued to do well in Florida, being right there in the middle of that rich recruiting area. Obviously, that didn't happen at Nebraska.

If he wants to stay in coaching, he can probably latch on somewhere as an offensive coordinator ... which he was apparently good at. Of course, he has all that buyout dough. Even after taxes, he could just kick back and live off the dividends and interest.
 
I watched the game. You could see it in his general demeanor that he knew he was toast. The failed field goal would be devastating to anyone else. He just took off this headset and tossed it to the ground. His time had come.
