Frisco vs Chattanooga

I believe the President of the NCAA said they just signed a 5 (or 8?) year contract with Frisco during his interview at the game?

I don't mind Frisco. I like that the Eastern teams have to fly to get there, too.
My only advice would be to stay in Dallas. There's more to do than there is in the burbs. Fewer trips back and forth.

Never been to Chattanooga. But aren't we talking about the stadium where the turf peeled off the field during the game? Yes, Frisco is a souless suburb and not walkable. People were nice. Uber were plentiful. Not outrageously expensive. Nothing to compare to, but good enough

I started going to Chattanooga in 2001. Chattanooga way better than Frisco. Frisco is too spread out. You don’t just run into your friends and people you know. In fact, it’s. To even hook up with them if you aren’t at same hotel.

Couldn’t agree more.

This is the part I didn’t like about Frisco. I probably knew 60 people in Frisco who I never even saw. Even the event at the Rough Rider Stadium (which was cool as HELL; thank you UMAA!!) it was such a large venue (and dark) it was difficult to find your friends. We stayed in a great area with a lot of GRIZ fans, great restaurants and 3 great bars filled with GRIZ fans late into the night. But they weren’t my friends. In Chattanooga I would have seen them all.

Yup. I was lucky enough to be at JD Quinn's BBQ on Sat. and saw 75 friends there. Then, only saw a few of them after that, despite trying to make plans.

Tons of ex-Griz in Frisco. A number of ex-players went to Saturday practice.

I couldn’t disagree more. The bars and restaurants here provide so much more than ‘Nooga. The Frisco Bar and Grill was crazy last night. Everyone is so welcoming!

I have seen a few Bunny fans. But most a sea of maroon.

And, of course, we went to Tight Ends. Even my wife was impressed with the beautiful women and their behinds!

Your wife sounds awesome. Haha.

I was talking for one of the major event planners from the city of Frisco at practice the other day. He said they were literally rooting for Montana to make it because we were the only school that were mainly using Frisco bars and event spaces for our gatherings and the others were spread all over the metroplex.

Last year, anywhere in Frisco a Jackrabbit went was completely draped in NDSU flags, posters, etc. I understand why. We decided to not spend our money in those establishments. I am glad others did as well. Maybe they have taken some of that stuff down since they didn't make it this year. Don't sell your soul to one school and then bitch that that the other doesn't sit and take it.

I don't even want to see my rental car toll bill after this week.. cruising on freeways everywhere was pretty annoying.. and agree with just about everyone above, trying to find and meet up with your friends was nearly impossible. Somehow a few of us made it work a couple times. Strip malls as far as the eye can see. However, a few of us were at a sports bar in Frisco last night watching the Michigan/UW game and a board member from the Frisco visitors/chamber board (I think..?) came up to our table and thanked us for coming down and said they love having the game and definitely want to extend it beyond the current deal.

Okay, so I've said all along that I was a proponent of Chattanooga (or similar) over Frisco as a place to hold the title game. After being here two days, here are my thoughts:

Man most of these places are soulless. I wanted to like downtown Frisco. I tried. I really did. I stretched and triiiiiiied to convince myself.

But sorry. It's just a bedroom community suburb. That's not to say it doesn't have nice areas and good restaurants. We're staying in Plano, and although it's a little like living in a mall, there are plenty of good restaurants within walking distance.

But it isn't -- nor can it ever -- be like Chattanooga. There isn't the community involvement. There isn't the ability to walk everywhere. Chattanooga doesn't have 7 lane highways in either direction when you leave your hotel. I miss seeing 10,000 Griz fans within a 10 block radius as opposed to 10,000 in a 30 mile radius.

This all said, I've had a ball so far, and just driving by the facility looks nice. I've been impressed with those locals who do know why we're here. That said, given 3 weeks planning time, we can do better.

Another caveat: I haven't been to Tight ends yet....

Open to other thoughts. What say ye?

Everett’s post is spot on. The only things about Frisco that are better are ease of flying in (but not driving around) and a better stadium. There is absolutely no comparison to the ‘Nooga bars and restaurants and the interesting annd walkable downtown with civil war sites everywhere and a real community feel. Its almost like you were never there.
