Free Safety As The Leading Tackler

Bok_Choi said:
If anyone had bothered to look at the records on GoGriz, you'd note Olson was the leading tackler in 18 & 19. Didn't play football in the normal 2020 season. That leaves 21 & 22. Jace lewis had more tackles than Hauck in 2019, but yeah let's spend a lot of time worrying about who did what. No one with a f###[#] brain cell left would argue that Olson wasn't an exceptional college talent, thus the Buchanon award. Had Troy Anderson been healthy and in Maroon and Silver those same seasons, it would have been the same dam results.

Welnel, O'Connell & Lewis all had 100 tackles, on average, in 2021, that was within 30 of what Hauck produced. But yeah, it's too bad he got those because he obviously took stats away from more worthy guys. Linebackers were making the majority of tackles in every one of these seasons. Fact. If you're paying attention, I am no fan of Hauck's or the defense he chose to run these past five years. But that doesn't make me inclined to lie about what happened.

Please stop responding to this clown. He always turns out the same, you're a f###[#] idot, and he's the only one who knows anything at all.

This is no thread for common sense and logic. 😉

I didn't know that. Name?
Kane Iaone and I assure you that he wasn't some coddled coaches kid like robby.

He started 4 years, I think, right? I don't know any LBs who started for 4 years. So, total tackles might not be a valid indicator. My point was not about total career tackles, which is a different topic. My point was about having a free safety lead the team in tackles for an entire season.

I don't claim to know everything. I pose questions only for football discussion. Point-counterpoint. I don't call posters childish names. And I don't participate in the grade-school banter between Griz fans and Cat fans, which I feel ruins this site. I talk football, which is what this site is supposedly for, right?

The leading tacklers at Colo St, Miami-Ohio, Kent St, and Mich St were d-backs.

Kirk Timmer has more career MSU tackles than Kane Ione.

What were the combined records of the teams you mentioned?

Uh, no he doesn't. Kane Iaone led not only the bobcats but held the BSC record for tackles untill Hauck just broke it.

Nope. LOOK IT UP.

Tackles, Career Tackles, Career
1. 518 Kirk Timmer, 1983-86
2. 491 Kane Ioane, 2000-03
3. 437 Ken Lang, 1985-88
4 382 Bobby Daly, 2005-08
5. 380 Jim Kalafat, 1980-83

Hmmm, I'll be damned. Thanks PR, I stand corrected.

It looks like the NCAA changed methodologies in 2000 or so, to include playoff stats, and then started counting tackles only going forward from then. Pretty stupid.

Oh so then Kane Iaone passed Timmer? That's how Hauck did it too.

Kane is often credited, as the NCAA started recognizing tackles/tackles for loss in 2000
